Before Queen, Taylor founded Smile with Brian May. Smile released one album in Japan which is now available throughout the world as Ghost of a Smile. Smile wrote a few of the songs which would later appear on Queen's self-titled debut album, and one - Doin' Alright was featured on the Smile album.
Taylor also fronted another band, The Cross from 1987 to 1991. The first album, Shove it (1988) was a solo album by Taylor in all but name - he wrote all the songs and played most of the instruments himself. This was an experiment that didn't really work for Taylor and in the other two albums by The Cross he allowed the other members of the band to contribute more, resulting in more traditionally styled rock albums.
Out of the four original members of Queen Taylor and guitarist Brian May continued to play as Queen + Paul Rodgers between 2004 and 2008. Of the other original members singer Freddie Mercury tragically died in 1991 and bassist John Deacon retired from music business in the mid-1990's.
In 2009, after the partnership between him, Brian and Paul ended, Roger worked on some new solo material from which his single The Unblinking Eye (Everything is Broken) was digitally released at 23th November at Queenonline.com. At the moment it is unclear how the future of Queen will look like, though Roger has announced that he will do a short tour in the spring of 2010.
Top Of The World Ma
Roger Taylor Lyrics

I'm on the top of the world ma, on the top of the world
You know I got me a girl ma, she makes me kiss curl curl
She got some kind of witch craft, and it's workin' on me
What you get ma, is what you see
She's voodoo child when she weaves her spell
Gonna send me dancing to the gates of Hell ...
I think I'm losing control ma, you know my head's in a whirl
Show got her own kinda voodoo, and it's working on me
When we get gymnastic, oooeee
Well she can make me rock, she can make me roll
She makes me MAD: BAD: and dangerous you know ...
She's voodoo child, she's a living doll
She can crack the sky, watch the angels fall
I'm on the top of the world ma, I'm on the top of the world
I'm on the top of the world ma, on the top of the world
On the top of the world
The lyrics of Roger Taylor's song "Top Of The World, Ma" appear to be about the feeling of being in a new relationship that is both exciting and a little bit dangerous. The singer is "on the top of the world" because he's found a girl who makes him feel alive and passionate - in fact, her "witchcraft" and "voodoo" seem to have some kind of supernatural effect on him. However, the singer is also aware that this feeling of being out of control could lead to a bad end - "is this the end of the world" - but he can't seem to resist the pull of his new love interest.
Overall, the lyrics seem to capture the sense of being swept away by a powerful and potentially destructive emotion. The imagery of "dancing to the gates of Hell" and "cracking the sky" suggests a kind of grand, apocalyptic drama that matches the intensity of the singer's feelings. What's interesting about the song is that while it could be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the dangers of getting too caught up in a new love, there's also a sense of exhilaration and freedom in the lyrics. The singer might be aware that he's playing with fire, but he's enjoying it while he can.
