It is cool how covers can introduce you to bands and performers you've never heard before. Ghost's cover of this song brought me here. Metallica's cover of Breadfan introduced me to Budgie. The list goes on.

It's also great to hear the originals and even better to hear someone do a great cover that does the original justice like Joe Cocker's "With a Little Help From My Friends."

I first heard of Roky in 1985, while watching Return of the Living Dead. His song "Burn the Flames" featured in a crematorium scene. That song was amazing. A few years later I heard Two Headed Dog, and I was hooked. I never knew of "If you have Ghosts" until Ghost preformed it.
Didn't know until today, 3 years later that Roky had passed.
I must say, Ghost certainly pays tribute to him in their rendition. A cover version that compliments the original by being it's own thing.
RIP. Roky.

Roky Erickson is a sheer genius. His material was great when he did it and just keeps getting better as more people and bands discover him. I absolutely love Ghost BC's (and yes, the BC is silent) key, use of harmony and their extremely polished production values. I have to wonder just what the 13th Floor Elevators would have accomplished back then if they had the technology that Ghost BC has today?

Every one of my sensibilities is rattled. This musician rejuvenated my love of both "outsider" rock and psychedelic rock. I Think of Demons, Goodbye Sweet Dreams, Haunt, Night of the Vampire, A Cold Night for Alligators...the entire 13th floor library...very saddened. Roky was one of my 5 favorite artists, with Daniel Johnston, Tom Waits, and the late Warren Zevon and Johnny Cash. RIP You Don't Love Me Yet...well, yes, I do, and I'll never stop. Well, since the music styles are different, as in other covers, there's nothing to be discussed, just listen to these good musics and enjoy. The world won't end if this ou that version is better.

Originally from Houston Texas, we all knew who Roky Ericson was. He had a pretty sad story. Lots of mental health issues that were made worse by his use of psychedelic drugs.
There's a great tribute album WHERE THE PYRAMID MEETS THE EYE that came out around 90 or 91. John Wesley Harding did a cover of IF YOU HAVE GHOSTS which is my personal favorite. The tribute album is packed with great covers by many Texas bands, ZZ Top, Butthole Surfers, etc... such a talented guy. Sadly, Texas lost him not too long ago. I believe this song my best capture what he had going on in his head.
