Laserie left Cuba after the revolution and continued his career in the United States. He died in a hospital in Florida at the age of 75.

In Las Cuarenta, Rolando Laserie paints a vivid picture of a character who has experienced both the good and the bad sides of life. Otro de los grandes intérpretes de la música cubana que no recibió todo el reconocimiento que se merecía, Rolando Laserie se ganó el sobrenombre de el Guapachoso por la actitud desenfadada y varonil con que interpretaba boleros y guarachas. A través de su extensa carrera, Laserie se caracterizó por el buen gusto de su repertorio: grabó maravillosas versiones de Sabor a mí, Lo mismo que a usted, de Palito Ortega y el tango Las cuarenta.
