His work has concentrated on two distinct streams. On the one hand, he is a highly regarded performer of traditional Baroque music, recording works by Bach, Monteverdi, and Gautier. On the other hand, he is a skilled improvisor who has composed ideosyncratic works that combine Baroque instruments and conventions with more contemporary instruments like jazz bass and percussion.

My all-time favorite musician. I've loved his passionate playing for many decades. Thank you, Rolf Lislevand :-)

Jeffrey i once heard some French radio program focusing on rolf lislevand, he had bought a baroque guitar and a théorbe. He was being interviewed and alternated with some tunes. I wasn't aware of him or any baroque guitar music at the time. As the program went on, i was hooked. His humility was a counterpoint for his musical skills. As he introduced us to this music, explaining it s origins and peculiarities, i began to get a glimpse of the fabulous musician a man ha was. Each tune he played seeed even more beautiful than the other, until he got to this caprice de chaconne. I thought i had never heard such beauty. To this day the memory lingers. I'm glad he recorded this one on cd. Your remark give me opportunity to share this experience at last. I'm sure you'll understand. He 's one of my two favorite musicians of all time now. Take care.
