Tumbling Dice
Rolling Stones feat. Eric Clapton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mmm yeah! (Woo, woo)
Women think I'm tasty, but they're always tryin' to waste me
Make me burn the candle right down
But, baby, baby, don't need no jewels in my crown

'Cause all you women is low down gamblers
Cheatin' like I don't know how
Baby, got no flavor, fever in the funk house now
This low down bitchin' got my poor feet a itchin'
Don't you know you know the duece is still wild

Baby, I can't stay, you got to roll me
And call me the tumblin' dice
Always in a hurry, I never stop to worry
Don't you see the time flashin' by

Honey, got no money
I'm all sixes and sevens and nines
Say now baby, I'm the rank outsider
You can be my partner in crime

Baby, I can't stay
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin'
Roll me and call me the tumblin' dice
Now baby

Oh my, my, my, I'm the lone crap shooter
Playin' the field ev'ry night
Baby, I can't stay
You got to roll me and call me the tumblin' dice (Call me the tumblin')
Got to roll me (ya yes), got to roll me, got to roll me (Oh yeah)

Got to roll me
Got to roll me (yeah)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me (Keep on rolling)
Got to roll me

Call me the tumblin' dice, yeah
Got to roll me
Got to roll me
Baby sweet as sugar (Got to roll me)
Yeah, my, my, my yeah (Got to roll me)
Now now now now (Got to roll me)
I went down baby, oh

Got to roll me (hit me)
Baby I'm down

Overall Meaning

The song "Tumbling Dice" by the Rolling Stones featuring Eric Clapton is a blues rock track that is best known for its infectious chorus and guitar riffs by Clapton. The opening lines of the song talk about how women find the singer attractive but are always trying to deceive him or waste his time. The second verse talks about how women are gamblers who cheat, and the singer has no interest in the games they play. The chorus goes on to say that the singer can't stay with one woman because he's always in a hurry, and he never stops to worry about the time that's passing by.

The third verse is about the singer's financial situation, how he's all "sixes and sevens and nines," and has "no money." The fourth verse sees the singer declaring himself a "lone crapshooter" who plays the field every night. In the end, he calls on his partner to "roll him and call him the tumblin' dice" and takes on the name of the song's title.

This was the Stones their best tour ever! Every single one of them were at their peak musically it's awesome and the show rocked. I wish we could rewind the clock 21 years and see the stones like that again.

Great live version! I like this concert movie!!

I will look into it! I know that the stones can play a small stage as well as a large one. I was lucky enough to see them in '95 in Amsterdam at the Paradiso (album Stripped). Awesome experience, everybody should have the opportunity to see them in such an intimate setting. But also there everything is so well polished.

No I didn't I wasn't born then :D I heard some of it and it was their best writing years 69-73 and Mick Taylor was the best guitarist the Stones ever had. But he was a poor showman unlike Ronnie, the stage dynamics were plane in the 70s because the musicians were tethered. Production values were minimal (not that that has to do with the music btw but it adds to it) And from a sheer musician stance you hear that there are a lot more parts in the 89 tour, Chuck really adds a great dimension.

@cmcmeeks It's because this was shot in IMAX for IMAX screens, on a full size one, you'd be able to see the band in close detail.

Robert Hosking

Well, maybe. But what a backing band!
