@Rock Rock I think the point was not that he was actually underwater for 12 consecutive minutes, but that the ability to descend to those depths and explore even for the shorter durations of the individual segments is very impressive.

This is amazing. The ocean is magical and it’s a place with immense peace and your in another world when you experience it and you have a new understanding of the world after. The ocean might be scary at first but a lot of people create these fears but once you take it in fully, must be so magical and peaceful. In my opinion the most scary place is the world with humans, the ocean world with sea life and animals is heaven.

I have started my journey on learning to freedive. (I am 21)
I just finished learning how to swim I only need to work on my shoulders keep getting swimmer's shoulder either its weak or I over train (1 hour and a half to 2) . Also need to work on my breathing. Planning to be semi professional in 1 year

@thesnackbandit be fr? Are you not listening. Have you never went under water before. The peaceful feeling of the beach at sunset and at night. The ocean can be loud but can be one of the quiet places. In the middle of the ocean surrounded by water. No land near by. Just you and the ocean must be so freeing and scary.

I dont have the words to even begin to express just how truly profound how this was to watch. How exquisitely a work of art this film is. Its moved my very soul . That in a matter of 7 minutes time I've been changed experienced a metamorphosis from it i dont know how to explain it in words its more thwn that more feelings and emotional its brought me to tears but not from.sadness just emotional release from the experience im having . But I think thats extraordinary to be able to feel what im feeling i feel aliveand i feel hope wnd i know ill get thu another day and thats HUGE! . The first time I swimm in my country Costa Rica open seas it was a humility experience everything Guillaume says is true you realize a non understanding peace. And I started to respect my world even more. Is an experience out of this world. First I panic and then my body by itself made me give myself to the see and then I couldn't stop swimming. I feel so privileged to live in an age when landscapes around the world are available by air travel, and if not accessible to everyone in person, then by incredible camera witness, both undersea and out in space. When my grandmother was born, neither radio nor movies, television nor telephones, automobiles nor airplanes, antibiotics nor insulin, had been invented or discovered. No-one realized there was anything beyond the Milky Way or had seen the far side of the moon. Chemotherapy and nuclear bombs were unthinkable, the structure of atoms and DNA were mysteries. Now, just little more than a century later, I can call the Suez Canal from the Panama Canal, or fly from Buenos Aires to Mumbai, halfway around the world, in half a day, or watch a handsome, muscular Frenchman walk through a wonderful, lost Atlantis under the sea from a computer screen in a penthouse on a hill in San Francisco, over-looking the Pacific Ocean.
It's pitiful and abhorrent that one man can still decide to order his country to invade another. If more people saw how beautiful is our world, how fortunate is the legacy we've been gifted, war and hatred would look so imbecilic, and we'd devote ourselves to recovering lost civilizations, like Atlantis.

Beautiful and magical. I love free diving, but it only lasts for three to five minutes, someone might dare to drag it out, but it's already risky. It's a shame you can't stay down longer because it's so peaceful, I just love being below the surface.

Kudos to the cinematography. Just amazing all around. The Sperm Whales and he just meandered about without excitement or angst. Free Diving has always had my respect as a long time SCUBA diver. @Izack TheYak || Perhaps that’s true. Perhaps not. It doesn’t really matter to me. I love this video and think it is stellar, no matter how they pulled it off.

When it comes to why I apologized, I didn’t think that lambasting @William Laidlaw would do either of us any good. My response contained veiled hostility, which I felt was wrong of me. He did come in with hostility, but doesn’t justify its perpetuation. There was something that he valued that caused him to become upset enough to insult. Deescalating the situation by asking about what he values (instead of arguing about the truth) was the logical thing to do. Now, I understand him better and he understands me better, and hopefully we can be a little less hostile toward opposition in the future.

How did you start free diving? Is it possible for a normal, non-athletic person to start training for free diving. I am actually right now in the midst of getting scuba diving license. But I do have plans in the future to try free diving.

@Gun Pixel Gun you're forgetting the original comment. Perfect lighting, perfect angles, and how exactly do you think this divers found all these points of interest with a world 70% of water? He could live 4 life times and still not discover all of these points of interest on his own. How deep he dives, how long he holds his breath, it's still all edited filming. People know his experience, sharing it so more people knows doesn't mean this all that much more real. Unless you're willing to agree a man can fly with just hair dryers tied to their feet. Because that's also a video on the internet.

@William Laidlaw what do you mean mate? This dude can dive down to 100 metres, so why would he fake this, it’s obviously not one shot if that’s what you mean, but seriously put some research in before you accuse

@William Laidlaw it is real. it wasn't all shot in one take, but the lead is a free diver and his wife is the camera operator. they used editing to stitch together different location shoots. there are interviews about the filmmaking process.

I've been to scuba diving this year in Andaman Islands (vacation) this was my 1st time. And it feels like a altogether different world. Dark. Cold. Unknown to mankind. I felt so scared as if something is peeking from the corner of my eye, lurking in the darkness but at the same time wanted to stay longer watch the beauty of nature. Can't express the feeling.
I have Thalassophobia but still I went to face my fear and I will go again one day, this time alone.
