The right words
It’s just a game we play
Day to day
To spare all the feeling and whispers that run in our mind
As I’m walking down the road
I can’t see
Free of the chains
And fly away like a bird
Baby I’m in love with you
But what you did to me is cruel
I’m standing in the rain
The pain made me insane
But I will not forget the truth
Give me a reason why
Trapped like a hawk in my own mind
I left the sadness far behind
I took a breath
And opened my eyes again
Open my eyes
I never knew the language of pain
Until you left my heart in vein
Crushed by you like a star
I will still miss you I don’t know why
I’m not a soldier
I’m just a woman
I don’t want to fight and be betrayed
I’m not a soldier
I’m a woman in love
In your eyes can it change?
But I don’t know why
Baby I’m in love with you
But what you’ve done to me
I’m standing in the rain
The pain made me insane
I will not forget the truth
The truth
I will still miss you I don’t know why
Baby I’m in love with you
But what you’ve done to me is cruel
I’m standing in the rain
The pain made me insane
But I will not forget the truth
Baby I’m in love with you
But what you did to me is cruel
But I will find a way
To gather my strength and say
I let go of you
In the song "I'm Not The Father" by Romans, the lyrics delve into the complexities of love, pain, betrayal, and self-discovery. The singer struggles to find the right words to express the emotional turmoil they are experiencing, emphasizing the facade people often put up in relationships to protect themselves from hurtful feelings and internal doubts. This constant cycle of emotional games is highlighted as a means to avoid confronting the harsh realities that linger in their minds.
The imagery of walking down a road but feeling unable to see the true self that yearns to break free and soar away like a bird signifies a desire for liberation from the constraints and burdens weighing them down. Despite being in love, the singer acknowledges the cruelty inflicted upon them by their partner and the insanity brought about by the pain. However, amidst the turmoil, there is a commitment to holding onto the truth, refusing to let go of their convictions and sense of self.
The metaphor of being trapped like a hawk in their own mind but ultimately leaving behind the sadness demonstrates a process of resilience and introspection. Taking a moment to breathe and opening their eyes symbolize a renewed perspective and a willingness to confront the harsh realities of the situation. The acknowledgment of not understanding the language of pain until their heart was left wounded further showcases the depth of their emotional turmoil and the lingering confusion over their feelings of loss and longing.
The refrain of "I'm not a soldier, I'm just a woman" underscores the vulnerability and humanity of the singer, contrasting with the idea of being betrayed and engaged in a battle of emotions. Despite professing love, the singer grapples with the harsh reality of the cruelty they have faced, yet strives to find a way to let go and reclaim their strength. The repeated declaration of being in love but also acknowledging the hurt inflicted reflects a tumultuous internal struggle and the longing to move forward from a painful chapter in their life. Ultimately, the song captures a journey of heartache, introspection, and resilience as the singer navigates the complexities of love and loss.
