1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

Flowers From Exile
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
for all the things that i have done
i should have known better
but i won’t ask for love nor shelter
think of me as the one to remain unknown
for more than i you have been a face to hide
you have become a name to forget
would you ever surrender?
inside your countries fortified
your dread of the deep
so unlike our dread of sleep
you won’t quench this glow
you won’t stem this tide
for your conventions are ruin
your tools are death to me
so how dare you molest the seas
you masters of deceit
are you still surprised
at how our pain dissolves into sound
into one voice
at this our loneliness more verdict than choice
more than i you have been a face to hide
you have become a stain to forget
a shame to reject
so nevermind
all our fears, all our tears
oh, no, nevermind
...the flowers we send you!
The song Flowers From Exile by Rome opens with the singer asking for forgiveness for all the wrong things that they have done. The opening lines can be viewed as an opening of the heart, a confession of sorts. The singer realizes that they should have known better but they won't ask for love or shelter. This speaks to their independence and their willingness to face the consequences of their actions. They do not want to rely on anyone else for help or support.
The song then moves on to discuss the difference between the singer and the people they are addressing. The people they address are staying far away from the singer, petrified inside their fortified countries. The singer talks about how the other people's fear of the deep is so different from their own fear of sleep. This could be a reference to the other people's fear of the unknown or the mysterious, while the singer's fear is of missing out on rest and sleep.
The song culminates in the singer sending flowers to the people who have ignored them, rejected them, and made them feel isolated. The flowers are a symbol of beauty and hope in the midst of loneliness and rejection. The final lines of the song, "all our fears, all our tears...oh, no, nevermind...the flowers we send you!" are a powerful reminder that even when we feel alone and rejected, we can still find beauty and hope in the world.

Wow, this is the first time I'm listening to the full album, from end to finish and just noticed the lyrics in Romanian (my mother tongue).
(26:00)
"You should have been here with me
We were created, trained and conditioned to disappear
We will stay among shadows, through burning meadows
Ready to become - thieves for rent
And we will remain invisible, we will travel slowly
Yet we will not hurry - our step towards the light
And we will dance - if we can - with our eyes closed
Among the borders, among the roads."

"Precisely because of this power that hope has of making the suffering hold out,
the Greeks regarded it as the evil of evils, as the most malign of evils"
