1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

L'Assassin
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No one grieves the thieves - No one hails the dawn
But when the sun comes back We will all be gone
A-shoveling, a-scheming - To help rebuild their walls
To make this world seem wrinkled and tired
No round fired, no assassins hired
All will salute this transformation
That will throw us back - Into a jungle of nations
That never made you blush
That never made you - Hush!
All banks and tanks have lost their glow
If you don't know now - you will never know
So fix your gaze upon the Moon - The drugs will hit soon
And go dream of the pure land - That I promised you
Go dream of the pure land - That I found for you
Lambs dressed as lions - relief in reverse
That trappings of worldly alliance
Amidst a riot of words
Nos defaites ne prouvent rien
Si ce n'est que nous etions peu nombreux
Pour lutter contre l'infamie
Et nous vous demandons que ceux
Qui nous regardent…
Que ca soit eux qui aient honte de ne rien
Avoir fait!
All banks and tanks have lost their charm
No one grieves the thieves - No one hails the dawn
But when the sun comes back We will al be gone
To help rebuild their walls
To make this world seem wrinkled and tired
No round fired, no assassins hired
All will salute this transformation
That will throw us back - Into a jungle of nations
All will salute the enormous bluff
That never made you blush
That never made you - Hush!
The lyrics of Rome's song "L'Assassin" are a commentary on the loss of trust and hope in the institutions that were meant to protect and serve the people. The lines "All banks and tanks have lost their charm / No one grieves the thieves - No one hails the dawn" express a sense of disillusionment with the corrupt financial and political systems that have failed to address the needs of the people. The following lines, "But when the sun comes back / We will all be gone / A-shoveling, a-scheming" indicate a desire to escape from this bleak reality and the commitment to working towards a better future.
The lines "To make this world seem wrinkled and tired / No round fired, no assassins hired" further suggest the idea that the struggle is not one of violence, but of a weariness that is permeating society. The call to "salute this transformation / That will throw us back - Into a jungle of nations" is a warning that the breakdown of these systems will lead to chaos and a regression to a more primitive state. The final lines "Go dream of the pure land / That I promised you / That I found for you" express a longing for a better future and the hope that it is still possible to achieve.
