1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I Remembered that Strong
I Have Severed All Links, All Attachments
To Study Your Gestures
You Shephard, You Merchant
You Cold-Hearted Deserter
Death Is Not A Trivial Matter
Death Is No Trivial Matter
La Muerte No Es Un Asunto Trivial
And Jealousy Appeared
Among A Crowd Of Well-Wishers
And Carried These Mournful Lanterns
All Gossip, All Slander
My Sweet Black Childhood
A Secret Son Of Europe
In Stern Ordeals
Our Great Refusal To Fear
La Muerte No Es Un Asunto Trivial
Mi Dulce y Negra Niñez
Un Hijo Secreto De Europa
Todo Lo Que Hemos Hecho
Todo... He Perdonado
Todo... He Perdonado
Einmal Vor Unermässlichem Stehen
Einmal Vor Unaussprechlichem Stehen
Einmal Vor Unbestechlichem Stehen
Einmal Vor Unverdächtigem Stehen
I Remembered You Strong (Einmal Vor Unvergesslichem Stehen)
But I Remembered You Wrong (Einmal Vor Unzerbrechlichem Stehen)
Everything Is Forgiven (Einmal Vor Unerbittlichem Stehen)
Everything We’ve Done (Einmal Vor Unermässlichem Stehen)
My Sweet Black Childhood (Einmal Vor Unaussprechlichem) Stehen
A Secret Son Of Europe (Einmal Vor Unbestechlichem) Stehen
In Stern Ordeals (Einmal Vor Unverdächtigem Stehen)
Our Great Refusal To Fear (Einmal Vor...)
Our Great Refusal To Fear
Our Great Refusal To Fear
Einmal Ins Innere!
The lyrics of the song The Secret Sons of Europe by Rome have some interesting symbolism and imagery that reflect a deep political and historical message. The first lines of the song, "I Remembered that You Wrong, I Remembered that Strong," suggest a struggle to recall an accurate memory of the past, perhaps referring to the collective memory of Europe's history rife with turmoil, war, and political upheaval. This is followed by an affirmation of severing all attachments, which could be interpreted as a desire to start anew and break away from the cycle of violence and betrayal.
The next lines introduce the idea of death as a non-trivial matter that should not be glossed over or taken lightly. This could be interpreted as a call to acknowledge the heavy weight of history and the responsibility of each individual to learn from it and work towards building a better future. The Spanish phrase "La Muerte No Es Un Asunto Trivial" reinforces this message further, suggesting a recognition of the gravity of death.
The next lines are poignant, speaking of jealousy that appears even among well-wishers and the resulting gossip and slander. They also mention a sweet black childhood, which could represent the shared cultural heritage of Europe's diverse communities, and a secret son of Europe, perhaps symbolizing the marginalized and oftentimes suppressed voices that can be found within the continent's history. The song concludes with a repetition of "Our Great Refusal to Fear" and the phrase "Einmal Ins Innere!" which could mean "once into the inner" or "once towards the interior," indicating an emphasis on personal reflection and introspection as essential elements of collective growth and transformation.
