1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

Rome Lyrics

wilde lager
we're clubbing traitors in green summer fields
reality is changing colour
all the nation's sad sweetness
is flowing from their eyes
the sun in our eyes and the rain on our boots
as black as our gift to the world
in this warm bath of black blood
we would give our skin for a beautiful drum
we're chasing traitors through green summer fields
all the way back across the waters
and we would do just about anything
just to translate this void into substance
wanting to daub time over
with thick colours
in this sultry heat
this stifling fever heat
we are tender young gods
love and despair locked in an embrace
two wilted flowers black and green
love and despair locked in an embrace
truth changed its smell as it aged
in the sweat of the august days
in the summer of surrender
The lyrics of Rome's song "Wilde Lager" paint a vivid and potent picture of a group of people embroiled in conflict, perhaps in a war or uprising of some sort. The imagery of "clubbing traitors in green summer fields" and "chasing traitors through green summer fields" ties into the theme of betrayal and disloyalty among fellow countrymen. The phrase "reality is changing color" speaks to the destabilizing effect of warfare, where moral absolutes become blurred and uncertain. The line "all the nation's sad sweetness is flowing from their eyes" captures the melancholy that accompanies violence and loss, along with a sense of displacement and disorientation.
The chorus is a striking evocation of the group's determination and sense of purpose, even in the midst of chaos and confusion. The idea of giving their skin for a beautiful drum conveys a fierce devotion to their cause, while the image of a warm bath of black blood suggests the transformative power of violence and sacrifice. The final lines of the chorus, "just to translate this void into substance," speak to the group's desire to imbue their struggle with meaning and significance, to transform a seemingly meaningless conflict into something that will be remembered and celebrated.
Overall, "Wilde Lager" is a powerful and evocative exploration of the human cost of conflict, and the blurry lines between loyalty and betrayal in a time of war. The poetic and metaphorical imagery used throughout the song adds to its emotional resonance and lasting impact.

we're clubbing traitors in green summer fields
We are punishing traitors in open fields during summer
reality is changing colour
The reality is shifting and transforming
all the nation's sad sweetness
The country's sorrowful tenderness
is flowing from their eyes
It is visible in their tears
and kneaded into time
And it is embedded into history
the sun in our eyes and the rain on our boots
We face the elements, the harsh sun and rain
as black as our gift to the world
Our gift to the world is as dark as the night
in this warm bath of black blood
We are immersed in a warm pool of black liquid
we would give our skin for a beautiful drum
We would sacrifice anything for the sake of music
we're chasing traitors through green summer fields
We are hunting down traitors in bright fields in summer
all the way back across the waters
Across distant waters we go
and we would do just about anything
We are determined and willing to go to extreme lengths
just to translate this void into substance
To give meaning to this emptiness
wanting to daub time over
Desire to cover time
with thick colours
With dense paints
in this sultry heat
In the hot, humid weather
this stifling fever heat
This oppressive, intense temperature
we are tender young gods
We are youthful and invincible
love and despair locked in an embrace
Passion and hopelessness intermingled
two wilted flowers black and green
Two fading symbols, one dark and one bright
truth changed its smell as it aged
As time passed, the truth evolved
in the sweat of the august days
In the hot, sticky days of August
in the summer of surrender
In the season of giving up
