1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

He joined an R&B cover band named Fire & Ice while in high school, and traveled around the region performing in local clubs and talent contests as a solo act and with the band. Woods dropped out of Alabama's Oakwood University in 1989 to pursue his dream on the West Coast, and toured with Vesta as a backing vocalist as well as appearing in industry showcases and cable-access programs.
Finally, he connected with producers Gerald Baillergeau and Victor Merrit, who sent his demo to RCA Records. The label signed him immediately, and he began working on his debut album in mid-1996. Wir Götter der Stadt
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A silent pact sealed
And it was in its shade
That i buried myself
Trembling like a thief
Nothing concealed
Not my hideous shame
Not the angst i felt
'Cause we can't undo the lie
Not with a word
Not with the blink of an eye
We are all weeping
'Caue we can't break away
Not without getting hurt
Not without leading astray
I'll state my case
I won't go down
You've lost your face
Now you're after mine
Are you turning time
Over to lies?
Over to lies
Swear never to frown
Upon the things we left
Behind
Now and again
These walls are shaking
Now and again
These walls are breaking
Now and again
These walls are breaking us in two
We are waving stealthy goodbyes
For we know we have failed you
You would not ever break the ties
Nor the code, now, would you?
I'll rest my case
I won't go down
You've lost your face
Now you're turning on mine
Are you handing time
Over to lies?
Over to lies
Swear never to drown
The things we love
They're all gone
For we left those things behind
Would you embrace
What is left to me?
Ever embrace what is left to be?
Would you embrace
What is left of me now?
The lyrics to Rome's song "Wir Götter der Stadt" are quite melancholic, conveying a sense of regret and pain. The first verse talks about a secret agreement that was made, which caused the singer to bury themselves in shame and fear. The second verse talks about the consequences of this lie, which has caused everyone involved to weep, but there seems to be no way to break the ties without causing more harm. The chorus is a plea not to forget the things that were once important, even if they are now lost. The third verse discusses the breaking of walls, possibly referring to the breakdown of relationships or communication. The final verse is a plea to embrace what is left of the singer, even though everything else has been lost.
Overall, the song seems to be about the consequences of lies and the difficulty of moving on. It's a song of sadness and regret, but also hope for the future.
Line by Line Meaning
A submission so sweet
A pleasing act done willingly and without force
A silent pact sealed
An agreement made between us that remains unspoken of
And it was in its shade
In the cover of this pact
That I buried myself
I concealed myself entirely in it
Trembling like a thief
With my whole being tremoring as if I had stolen something dear to me
Nothing concealed
There was nothing kept secret or hidden
Not my hideous shame
Neither the ugliness of my wrongdoing
Not the angst I felt
Nor the sense of deep anxiety and emotional distress I experienced
We are all weeping
All of us are crying
'Cause we can't undo the lie
As we are unable to reverse the false statement we previously made
Not with a word
No single remark can do it
Not with the blink of an eye
This cannot be accomplished in a momentary lapse of attention
We are all weeping
We all grieve
'Cause we can't break away
For we cannot detach ourselves from each other's faults
Not without getting hurt
The act of disengaging would result in enormous pain
Not without leading astray
Nor without having to mislead and deceive each other
I'll state my case
I will make my argument clear
I won't go down
I won't admit defeat
You've lost your face
You have lost the respect and repute you had
Now you're after mine
Now you are trying to damage my reputation
Are you turning time
Are you manipulating events that have already happened?
Over to lies?
Are you using it to promote further deceit?
Swear never to frown
Promise not to disapprove
Upon the things we left behind
Regarding the things that we moved on from
Now and again
From time to time
These walls are shaking
Our obstacles and difficulties are crumbling down
Now and again
Again, sometimes
These walls are breaking
Those barriers and limitations are slowly but surely disintegrating
Now and again
From time to time
These walls are breaking us in two
But they're also dividing us and our relationship
We are waving stealthy goodbyes
We're slipping away from each other surreptitiously
For we know we have failed you
Because we are aware that we have let you down
You would not ever break the ties
You would never sever ties with us
Nor the code, now, would you?
You would not disregard the rules either?
I'll rest my case
I will cease my argument
I won't go down
But will not give up or surrender, will not admit defeat
You've lost your face
Though you may have acquired a bad reputation
Now you're turning on mine
Now you're attempting to damage my reputation
Are you handing time
Are you manipulating events that have already happened?
Over to lies?
Are you attempting to use them for the promotion of deceit?
Swear never to drown
Promise not to destroy
The things we love
The things dear to us
They're all gone
They have all vanished
For we left those things behind
Because we abandoned them earlier
Would you embrace
Would you accept and embrace
What is left to me?
That which remains for me
Ever embrace what is left to be?
Would you always welcome that which is yet to come?
Would you embrace
Will you welcome and accept
What is left of me now?
That which still exists within me even after everything

What!? A release from my favourite artist that I seem to have missed completely :-o And what a song, heart piercingly beautiful. Reminds me of how his music shocked me by bringing tears to my eyes at a live gig. Never happened to me before.
