1) ROME is a Luxembourgish neofolk act founded in late 2005 as the main output for the songs of Jerome Reuter and was joined by co-producer Patrick Damiani as official member in early 2008. ROME signed to the Swedish label CMI in 2006 to release an EP titled "Berlin" (June 2006) and the albums "Nera" (November 2006), "Confessions d'un voleur d'ames" (April 2007), "Masse Mensch Material" (March 2008). In 2009 ROME got signed to the german label Trisol and released the EP "To Die Among Strangers" (May 2009) and the album "Flowers From Exile" (June 2009).
In their earlier work ROME mixes influences of Industrial and Neofolk with Experimental and Electronic Pop. The traditions of (French) Chanson and (American) Folk are becoming more and more influential in their current work. In 2009 violin player Nikos Mavridis officially joined the band to further contribute to the creation of their unique sound, which they themselves refer to as Chanson Noir. Nikos left the band in late 2010 to answer the army's call and Patrick found himself more and more tied up in the work for his own professional recording studio in Germany. ROME released the EP "L'assassin" in early 2010, shortly before going into hiatus, followed by the full length "Nos chants perdus". In 2011, Jerome, the project's only real flag-bearer, recorded and released the trilogy "Die Aesthetik Der Herrschaftsfreiheit" (Trisol) and has taken up touring again with his new band mates Patrick Kleinbauer, Eric Emmel and Tom Luciani. ROME's lyrics often deal with anarchism and are demanding freedom and equal rights for all people on earth.

Wir Moorsoldaten
Rome Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We who brought this cult to light
We who only live for them
And only by their code
We are entombed alive
In these poems
Watch us dance on the beaches
Watch us die in the sun
And that lives full of fatigue
Can sweeten up
You have come to love
Our name
This dancing spray of flame
This tribute to our god
But we are savage children
We are sleepless soldiers
We partners in grief
We have turned to them
As flowers turn to the sun
For they make us disappear
In the darkness of their fire
Wir kennen einander nicht
Wir Moorsoldaten
Und suchen wir alle auch das Licht
Wir Moorsoldaten
So leuchtet doch all unsere Müh vergebens
So leuchtet auch der Tod vergebens
Leuchtet das Leben uns denn nicht?
Wir belügen einander nicht
Wir Moorsoldaten
Wir betrügen einander nicht
Wir Moorsoldaten
Und bleibt auch Alles stehn
Um in Gleichgültigkeit zu vergehen
Wir zerfressen einander nicht
Es lebe die Freiheit!
Rome's song Wir Moorsoldaten expresses the pain, struggles, and perseverance of a group of soldiers who brought their cult to light. These soldiers who live for and only by the code of their god are essentially entombed in their own poems, where they find solace and meaning in their purpose. The lyrics suggest their lives are filled with suffering and grief, and that they are often misunderstood by those who cannot comprehend their struggles. The soldiers find comfort and escape by dancing on the beaches and dying in the sun, and their god is a tribute to this dancing spray of flame. Yet, they acknowledge that they are savage children and sleepless soldiers, who have turned to their god – they are partners in grief who disappear in the darkness of their fire.
The second part of the song, written in German, talks about the soldiers as the Moorish soldiers who do not know each other. They are all seeking the light, but their efforts are in vain, as life and death seem futile. However, they do not deceive each other or eat away at one another, as they all believe in freedom.
Overall, the song suggests that the soldiers find freedom and purpose in their code and beliefs, despite the hardships and grief they experience. The song also highlights the human need to find solace, love, and belonging in something greater than ourselves.

We have sought refuge and guidance from them
As flowers turn to the sun
Just as plants rely on sunlight for survival, we rely on their influence

Their power causes us to lose our sense of self and individuality
In the darkness of their fire
Amidst the intensity of their influence and control
Wir kennen einander nicht
We do not know each other
Wir Moorsoldaten
We Moorish soldiers
Und suchen wir alle auch das Licht
Despite this, we all seek the light
Wir Moorsoldaten

Wir belügen einander nicht
We do not deceive each other
Wir Moorsoldaten
We Moorish soldiers

Far and wide as the eye can wander,
Heath and bog are everywhere.
Not a bird sings out to cheer us.
Oaks are standing gaunt and bare.
We are the peat bog soldiers,Marching with our spades to the moor.We are the peat bog soldiers,Marching with our spades to the moor.
Up and down the guards are marching,
No one, no one can get through.
Flight would mean a sure death facing,
Guns and barbed wire block our view.
We are the peat bog soldiers,Marching with our spades to the moor.We are the peat bog soldiers,Marching with our spades to the moor.
But for us there is no complaining,
Winter will in time be past.
One day we shall rise rejoicing.
Homeland, dear, you're mine at last.
No more the peat bog soldiersWill march with our spades to the moor.No more the peat bog soldiersWill march with our spades to the moor.

Not german fascists. Really not! They know who is who in this song. They hate Moorsoldaten. It's History related. The Song "Die Moorsoldaten""The soldier of the bog"(not this song of 'Rome' - "Wir Moorsoldaten""We soldiers of the bog") is an KZ-song written by Rudi Goguel in KZ-Börgermoor at Papenburg. https://www.google.com/maps/place/B%C3%B6rgermoor,+26903+Surwold/@53.0332501,7.4486468,12.75z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x47b7af0d46b892d3:0xacd57a580fa65959!8m2!3d53.0024992!4d7.4910265 If there is any meaning out there in the world why this could be an fascistic content in here than it is absolutely wrong. And it makes me smile that Nazis somewhere else in the world go with "Die weiße Rose" "the white rose" anti-nazi-movement in Germany. For research here the translated lyrics of the KZ song which is related to Romes "Wir Moorsoldaten".

Wherever the eye goes
Bog and heath only around
Song of bird did not quake us
Oak trees are bare and crooked
We are the bogs soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
Here in this desolate heath
Is the camp set up
Where we are far from joy
Stowed behind barbed wire
We are the bogs soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
The columns move in the morning
Through the bog to work
Digging at the blaze of the sun
But home is the point
We are the bogs soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
We are the bog soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
The posts go up and down
Nobody, nobody can get through
Escape will only cost life
The castle is fenced four times
We are the bogs soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
We are the bogs soldiers
And move with the spades
Into the bog
But there is no complaint for us
Eternal cannot be winter
One day we will be glad
Home, you are mine again!
Then move the bogs soldiers
No longer with the spades
Into the bog
Then move the bogs soldiers
No longer with the spades
Into the bog

Oh wie diese Zeit auf uns lastet, es heißt: Still sein, es heißt: warten, und im verborgenen an sich selbst Arbeiten !
ES LEBE DIE FREIHEIT !!!

Oh how this time weighs on us, it means: be quiet, it means: wait, and work on yourself in secret!
