Home At Last
Ron Hamilton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I
When at last my life has ended and I enter heaven's rest,
I will live in God's eternal peace in the dwelling of the blest.
All my pain will then be over earthly cares will all fade away.
Golden light will glisten from the throne of God no more night just perfect day.

Going home, going home
I will enter there by grace alone
O what joys my heart has never known
going home.

II
There are times when day is ending and my work is almost done
when I scan the far horizon and I watch the setting sun.
I am dreaming of that city with its gates of pearl and crystal sea
I see Jesus reaching out His nail-scarred hands waiting there to welcome me.

III
Ev'ry sin will be forgotten
ev'ry tear will then be past.
I will rest within my Father's house
safely home, home at last.
Ooo
Tears will pass
Ooo
I'll go home,
home at last.

Home at last
Home at last.

Overall Meaning

Ron Hamilton's "Home at Last" is a beautiful and touching song that outlines the singer's longing to enter heaven's rest. The singer asserts that upon entering heaven, they will live peacefully in God's eternal abode alongside the blessed who have gone before them. The pain and strife of earthly life will fade away, and in place of darkness, they will experience a golden light emitting from the Almighty's throne. The chorus, "Going home, going home, I will enter there by grace alone, O what joys my heart has never known, going home," reiterates the singer's anticipation and excitement as they look forward to finally being in their true home.

The second verse finds the singer reflecting on their life's work as it nears its end. They dream of the city with gates made of pearl and a crystal sea, where Jesus waits to welcome them with His nail-scarred hands. The final verse expresses the singer's confidence that upon reaching their final destination, all their past sins and sorrows will be left behind, and they will rest peacefully in their Father's house. The repetition of the phrase, "home at last," creates a sense of finality and emphasizes the singer's readiness to leave this earthly life behind and embrace the afterlife.

What a joy to have grown up listening to patch the pirate. I believe Ron Hamilton’s music will forever remain a place among our sacred hymns until the Lord returns.

I want to go home now, in a place where there is an everlasting joy, perfect rest and no sin anymore. I want to go home now, where we can see our love ones. I want to go home now, to see my Savior Lord Jesus Christ. Amen

We have lost a great man of God for but a short time, but heaven has eternally gained a hero.

Thank you so much Hamilton Family for sharing your father and beloved husband to all of us. I was born again when I was in the Navy in 1997, during my tour being forward employed in Gaeta Italy, we were out the sea, where I trusted Christ as my savior. I shortly there after joined Bible Baptist Church, located in Italy at that time. That’s when I first heard of Patch the Pirate, and Ron Hamilton. What a blessing he has been to me and my family. In 2001 I met my wife, and married her shortly there after. We were raised our children through Patch the Pirate, and we have been blessed as we were able to use this blessed ministry. Blessed be our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and may God richly bless you and your family, as you continue to serve him.

Mr. Hamilton aka: Patch the Pirate helped shape my childhood, and deepen my love for Jesus.
I would listen to the Patch adventures for hours and play my favorite songs on repeat.
He's the reason I love orchestra music today.
It was such an honor to have the opportunity to meet him in 2016 and he even signed my Bible.
He will be missed immensely, but we all have the hope that we will see him again someday.

Our choir sang this Sunday morning after Bro. Hamilton went home.
The Hamiltons may never know the impact both musically and spiritually they have had on our little church in Michigan.
