Happiness

So good while it lasts
Some people say
That it ain't worth pursuing
'Cause it's always moving too fast
Still I wonder
What could it be
What does it mean
'Cause I'm so in love with you
If this ain't happiness baby it'll do
Let's call it happiness
Yes
Happiness so hard to deal with
When there is sadness in your eyes
As you come through the door
It may leap out of the darkness
It's always yelling "Surprise!"
So I wonder
What does it mean
And I wonder
Why me
'Cause I'm so in love with you
If this ain't happiness baby it'll do
Let's call it happiness
Yes
Oh there's no denying
It's one of those things
That money can't buy
But still we try
May we all mop up
And our cup runneth over
May we all have
More than enough of
Happiness
Happiness
'Cause I'm so in love with you
If this ain't happiness baby it'll do
Let's call it happiness
Yes
The song "Happiness" by Ron Sexsmith delves into the complexities of the concept of happiness. The first two lines of the lyrics acknowledge that happiness is hard to come by, but when it does come, it is a wonderful feeling. However, some people claim that happiness is not worth pursuing, as it is like a moving target that cannot be caught up with. In the chorus, the singer wonders what happiness really means and emphasizes that he is filled with love despite not being sure about what happiness is. He admits that although he is not sure if he is happy or not, being in love is enough for him to sustain himself, and they can call it happiness.
In the second verse, the lyrics suggest that happiness is challenging to sustain, and it can quickly disappear, causing sadness in one's life. Happiness, the song implies, is sometimes unpredictable and often comes when least expected. The line "It's always yelling 'Surprise!'" acknowledges that happiness can indeed take one by surprise at any moment, even when life seems the toughest. The singer ponders why he has been blessed with such great love and wonders what it means, but he is grateful for it, and they can call it happiness.
