This band's lineup had Ronnie Padavona on the bass guitar, along with singer Billy de Wolf, guitarist Nick Pantas, drummer Tom Rogers, and saxophone player Jack Musci.
In 1958 the band again changed their name, along with a few changes of personnel. The band was now known as Ronnie and the Red Caps. At this point, Padavona began singing, replacing de Wolf. Musci also left the band, and a new guitarist, Dick Botoff, joined. The Redcaps lineup released two singles: "Lover" b/w "Conquest" (with De Wolf on vocals on the A-side) on the Reb label, and on Seneca (S 178-102, USA), 'An Angel Is Missing' with 'What'd I Say' on the B side (both songs featuring Ronnie Dio on vocals).
In 1961 they changed their name to Ronnie Dio and The Prophets. (Presumably, this is also the first time Padavona began using the pseudonym "Dio"). The Prophets lineup lasted for quite a long time and produced several singles and one album. Some sources state that some of the single releases would've been made by Ronnie James Dio solo, but others, such as Dio himself, state that all of the singles were made as a band. The band ended in 1967, when Dio and Pantas continued on in a new band called The Electric Elves.

Blue Days Blue Nights
Ronnie Dio and the Prophets Lyrics
(O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days) and goodbye (Goodbye)
Goodbye, baby (O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days)
I was so sure of my baby
Since she went and put me down
That I feel that maybe
I was destined for this sound this sound of
(O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days) and goodbye (Goodbye)
Goodbye, baby (O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days)
Every reason for this torture
Keeps running through my mind
And I know that my future
Depends on what I find but all I find are
(O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days) and goodbye (Goodbye)
Goodbye, baby
I've being searching, begging
For the key that'll set me free
And it left me lonely i've being crying
To the blue, blue
Reason while I'll always be
Ever lonely, always looking
For the path of my escape
But you know that I can see now
That I'll never
Be free from the red, red tape
That keeps me tangled in a
(O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days) and goodbye (Goodbye)
Goodbye, baby (O-o-o oh, blue nights)
Ooh, goodbye baby! There's no more baby
(O-o-o oh, blue days) come on blue nights
And blue days
(O-o-o oh, blue days) and goodbye (Goodbye)
Goodbye, baby (O-o-o oh, blue nights)
(O-o-o oh, blue days)
I was so sure of my baby

Those who only know Dio for his Metal God days should go back and appreciate his beautiful crooning voice on these early Doo-wop recordings. He had such a strong vocal presence.
@heathertiller3644
Hell no. That shit sucks and will only diminish this metal god’s metal cred.
@LedKashmir
I Could listen to him sing anything, his voice just speaks to my soul. What a talented and beautiful man, inside and out.. Dio forever!! 🤘🏻🔥❤️
@wolfang12alpha
To think this is the same guy that would go on to sing stuff like Neon Knights and Holy Diver. That's so crazy to think about.
@petertran4760
He truly was an embodiment of Heaven and Hell.
@michaeldy3157
