Milsap was born in Robbinsville, North Carolina with a congenital disorder that left him almost completely blind. He was abandoned by his mother as an infant and raised by his grandparents until the age of five, when he was sent to the Governor Morehead School for the Blind in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Milsap showed musical aptitude at an early age. The school stressed classical music training but he preferred country, gospel and rhythm-and-blues. He released his first single, Total Disaster, in 1963 at the age of twenty. This was followed by several Ashford And Simpson, compositions, including the memorable "Let's Go Get Stoned", which, unfortunately for Milsap, was relegated to a b-side. A few months later it would become a million-selling single for the more popular blind pianist, Ray Charles. 1972 found him working regularly at Roger Miller's King of the Road Club in Nashville, Tennessee and he signed with RCA Records in 1973. He was at his peak of popularity in the late 1970s and early 1980s with songs that made his name familiar to pop as well as country audiences, such as "It Was Almost Like A Song," "{There's) No Gettin' Over Me," "Smoky Mountain Rain," "I Wouldn't Have Missed It For The World," and a remake of Chuck Jackson's "Any Day Now" (which was named Billboard magazine's Number One Adult Contemporary hit of 1982). Milsap recorded for RCA until 1992. During that time he created five gold albums, one platinum album and one double platinum album. He also won six Grammy Awards and eight Country Music Association awards including the coveted Entertainer of the Year Award. In 2005 Milsap resigned with RCA Records and released a new country single, "Local Girls."
Milsap has recorded music with Kenny Rogers, Elvis Presley and Barry Manilow.
Ronnie and his wife Joyce currently make their home in Nashville, Tennessee.
Milsap enjoys his hobby of amateur (Ham) radio. More info on him can be found at: http://www.qrz.com/wb4kcg
Let's Fall Apart
Ronnie Milsap Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lips, are you ready to tremble
Hands, are you ready to shake
Eyes, get ready to cry
Heart, get ready to break
Here she comes, she's gettin' closer
Altogether now let's fall apart
Nerves, you'll be going to pieces
Tears, you'll run down my face
Head, you'll be spinning around
It's time every one take your place
We're all in this thing together
My body, my mind and my heart
Altogether now let's fall apart
I couldn't keep her from leaving
Though I tried, oh, Lord, how I tried
But she fell in love with somebody new
I guess that's him by her side
Here she comes now, she's gettin' closer
Does everyone remember your part
Altogether now let's fall apart
Altogether now let's fall apart
The lyrics to Ronnie Milsap's Let's Fall Apart deal with the singer's heartbreak over losing the woman he loves. The first lines of the song serve as a rallying call for everyone present to commiserate together and experience the emotions that come with heartache. The singer asks if lips are ready to tremble, hands are ready to shake, eyes are ready to cry, and heart is ready to break. These questions show that he is aware that everyone present will be going through a difficult time and that they must all brace themselves for the emotions that will be coming.
The singer then describes the woman he loves approaching, and as she gets closer, he asks if everyone is ready to start falling apart. The second verse continues on this theme, with the singer detailing how he and everyone present will be affected. He describes nerves being shattered, tears running down his face, and his head spinning around. He then asks everyone to take their place, seeming to imply that they will all be taking turns falling apart.
The final verse reveals that the singer has lost the woman he loves to someone else, and he couldn't stop her from leaving. He describes watching her fall in love with somebody new and seeing them together. He then brings the song full circle, asking if everyone remembers their part and then urging them to "fall apart" once more. Overall, the lyrics to Let's Fall Apart convey the intensity of heartbreak and the sense of community that can come from shared pain.
