Kept a near prisoner by Phil Spector throughout her teens and 20s, she eventually left the abusive relationship to raise her son, and re-establish her languishing singing career. Many attempts fell flat; even 1976's Say Goodbye to Hollywood, written by Billy Joel and with backing from Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band, didn't take to the charts. Her 1980 album Siren, produced by Genya Ravan, featured a Ramones cover but was not a hit. In 1986 she was featured by Eddie Money on the hit single Take Me Home Tonight, singing the line "Be my baby" as part of the chorus.
Her 2006 album Last of the Rock Stars features work with Keith Richards, Patti Smith, the Raveonettes and others, including a cover of a Johnny Thunders song. Her previous EP She Talks to Rainbows was produced by and included a duet with Joey Ramone. In 2003, she released through her website Something's Gonna Happen, a five-song EP of Marshall Crenshaw songs recorded in 1989. Her 2006 European summer tour was postponed when her husband, Jonathan Greenfield, became ill.
In 2011, after the death of Amy Winehouse, Ronnie Spector released her version of Winehouse's 2006 single "Back to Black".
In 2016, she released, through 429 Records, English Heart, her first album of new material in a decade.
Love on a Rooftop

Now we live together never find the time
We used to walk as lovers on the sand
Now we're working full time on our lifetime plan
We never stop to see the moon at night
We're just to busy leading complicated lives.
Wo wo, wo wo wo
Love on a rooftop
We couldn't make the love stop
We were giving all that we got
Wo wo, wo wo wo
I remember holding you so tight
Our kisses lasted all night
Wo wo, wo wo
Love on a rooftop
Wo wo, wo wo wo
Look at us now all growed up
We've got it all together got it all sewn up
But is this all it was leading too?
Do we just run out of dreams when all our dreams come true?
Whatever happened to those endless nights
When we were happy living young and foolish lives
Wo wo, wo wo wo
I remember
Love on a rooftop
We couldn't make the love stop
We were giving all that we got
Wo wo, wo wo wo
I remember holding you so tight
Our kisses lasted all night
Wo wo, wo wo
Love on a rooftop
Wo wo, wo wo wo
We never stop to see the moon at night
We're just to busy leading complicated lives.
Wo wo, wo wo...
Wo wo, wo wo wo
I remember
Love on a rooftop
We couldn't make the love stop
We were giving all that we got
Wo wo, wo wo wo
I remember holding you so tight
Our kisses lasted all night
Wo wo, wo wo
Love on a rooftop
Wo wo, wo wo wo
In Ronnie Spector's song "Love on a Rooftop," the singer reminisces about a time when they were in a romantic relationship with someone and how things are different now. They used to have conversations with no financial worries, but now they live together without time for each other. They used to be carefree and in love, walking hand in hand on the beach, but now they're working full-time on their "lifetime plan" and are too busy for romance, even forgetting to take the time to look up at the moon at night.
The chorus repeats the nostalgic refrain of "Love on a Rooftop," where they were so in love that they couldn't make it stop, giving all they had to each other. The singer remembers holding their love so tightly that their kisses would last all night. They juxtapose these memories against their current reality, where they feel all grown up with their lives all sewn up, but wonder if there's more to life than this.
This song is ultimately about the ebb and flow of relationships and the passage of time. It's about the transformative power of love that we experience in our youth and the sense of loss that comes when we move into adulthood and take on responsibilities that keep us from the simple pleasures of romance. The song speaks to the universal truth that sometimes, we need to slow down and savor the moment, take a chance, and remember what made us fall in love in the first place.
