His first project was Beat!Beat!Beat!, an indie teenage band where he was the drummer. Years later the band separated and he became a soloist.
He then released his acclaimed debut EP 'Elliot' in 2013. The lead single 'Elliot' was named as Pitchfork's 'Best New Track'. Roosevelt then released the double-A side 'Night Moves/Hold On' in 2015 on Greco-Roman which continued a warm synth-pop, Balearic-influenced sound.
In April 2016, he announced his self-titled debut album, set for release on August 19, 2016 on Greco-Roman/City Slang, with the video for tracks "Colours" and "Moving On".
He has remixed the likes of Glass Animals, Jax Jones, Truls, Sundara Karma, Luka Vasta and Kakkmaddafakka, and on tour has supported Hot Chip, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and Crystal Fighters.
In June 2018, he announced a second album 'Young Romance', it was released on September 28, 2018. The first single from this album 'Under The Sun' was released on June 27, 2018.
In March 2019, he released 'Falling Back' and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Everywhere" on W Records. The next year, 'Everywhere' was featured in We Bare Bears: The Movie.
On 10 June 2020, Roosevelt released the single Sign, which was the first original material since his sophomore album Young Romance. Roosevelt went on to release another four singles (Echoes, Feels Right, Strangers & Lovers) before his third studio album, 'Polydans', which was released on 26 February 2021.
In July 2023, he announced a fourth album, 'Embrace', scheduled to be released on 22 September 2023. Four singles were released beforehand; Ordinary Love, Luna, Paralyzed, Rising.

Roosevelt Lyrics

I never wanted anybody else
Now I realize
Another year's gone to waste
Give yourself a chance
And leave your broken heart right at the door
Comes with no surprise
That you keep running away
You know the world keeps turning around
Just take me home nowhere to be found
We're lovers tonight
We're lovers tonight
I'll take you high again
Yeah, you're the one who's talking in my sleep
We can just pretend
And walk away out of sight
It's our only chance
I'll take you on a trip you've never been
Just hold me 'til the end
And let me guide through the night
You know the world keeps turning around
Just take me home nowhere to be found
We're lovers tonight
We're lovers tonight
We're lovers tonight
We're lovers tonight
The lyrics of Roosevelt's song "Lovers" seem to be about a one-night stand or a short-lived romantic encounter between two people who have never had the courage to pursue a proper relationship before. The singer confesses that he never wanted anyone else but the other person, yet they keep wasting time and running away from each other. The chorus suggests that they are finally taking the chance to be together as lovers, even if it's just for one night. The line "take me home nowhere to be found" implies that they want to be in a private and intimate space where they can explore their desires freely, without worrying about the outside world.
The singer promises to take the other person on a new adventure and to make them feel high and alive once again. They can pretend that they are someone else and forget about their problems for a while. The song ends with a reiteration of the chorus, as if to emphasize that this moment is all that matters right now.
One possible interpretation of these lyrics is that they reflect the Millennial and Gen Z mindset of instant gratification and commitment-phobia. Many young adults today prefer casual hookups and short-term flings to serious relationships, either because they fear getting hurt or because they prioritize their individual goals and freedoms over traditional notions of love and family. The song captures the thrill and the risk of such experiences, as well as the bittersweet feeling of knowing that they won't last forever.

Here I go again
Starting anew, repeating my actions from before

Give yourself a chance
Take a risk on yourself
And leave your broken heart right at the door
Don't bring your past emotional pain into this
Comes with no surprise
It's expected
That you keep running away
You have a habit of avoiding commitment
You know the world keeps turning around
The world doesn't stop for anyone
Just take me home nowhere to be found
Let's find a place to be alone together
We're lovers tonight
We are each other's romantic partners in the present moment

Yeah, you're the one who's talking in my sleep
You're always on my mind, even in my dreams
We can just pretend
We don't have to face reality
And walk away out of sight
Leave everything behind us and disappear
It's our only chance
This opportunity might not come again

Just hold me 'til the end
Stay with me until this moment passes
