Created in 2007 by solo national touring/recording artist Paul Wright while living in San Diego soaking in the southern California culture. Since conception their live show has caused a quick buzz as they have been asked to open for Tyrone Wells, Pepper, The Wailers and many more gracing many different venues. Wright has been touring himself seven years full-time playing alongside bands like Tobymac, Switchfoot, Shawn McDonald and many more in every state except well Maine.
Rootdown's music falls into the “pop/rock/reggae” category of band and genre, a well-developed musical culture with roots stretching back to the early days of Bob Marley, through the years of Sublime, and into today with many different bands spearheading the direction like Pepper and Slightly Stoopid. Think Beastie Boys meets Beach Boys.
Rootdown released their first self-titled EP in 2007 featuring songs such as “Don’t Walk Away” and “Real Love”. Released in July 2009, Rootdown's new album, “Summer of Love” features tracks such as “Taking Over Me”, “Sweet Love” and the ode to their favorite Oregon Mexican restaurant, “Burrito Boy”. Since its release, it has reached as high as #6 on the Itunes Top 10 Reggae Albums and has been featured on several national radio stations along with many regional stations.
Most recently, Rootdown was selected to showcase at the National Association of Campus Activities West Conference where over 25 college campuses and counting booked Rootdown for Spring 2010 shows.

Don't walk away yea come and rest your head upon my shoulder
Cuz it's not over when you say it's over so come closer
It's not over when you say it's over so come closer
Oh oh! Met her in the summer let's hang out this weekend
Oh oh! the birds were singing and good vibes you're bringing
Oh oh! the next week we're hanging every weekend
Oh oh! Strangers become friends and friends become lovers
Oh oh! Lovers become strangers when we don't love each other
Oh oh! Are we friends are we more are we wanting to discover
Oh oh! Well you can look back look back but
Maybe we will maybe we won't maybe I do but maybe I don't
The Rootdown song "Don't Walk Away" is a beautiful poetic assertion of the idea that one should not give up on love or a relationship too easily. The lyrics are a plea to a lover to stay, to not walk away just because it might seem like the moment has passed or the relationship is over. The song is a meditation on the fragility of human connections, and how easy it is to let a moment slip away, but also a reminder that it's never too late to try again, to move closer, to rest your head upon someone's shoulder.
The lyrics are simple but powerful, with a repetition of the phrase "It's not over when you say it's over, so come closer," that emphasizes the theme of not giving up too soon. The song moves forward with a sense of hope and optimism, even as it acknowledges that relationships can be unpredictable and may not always end up where we want them to. The verses recount the story of a relationship that began in the summer, with good vibes and singing birds, and evolved into a deeper connection. The bridge of the song provides a moment of reflection, asking whether the two lovers are friends, or something more, or whether they are still discovering what they want from each other. The chorus returns with its repeating plea to stay, and the song closes with uncertainty, acknowledging that maybe the relationship will continue, or maybe it won't.
Overall, Rootdown's "Don't Walk Away" is a beautiful song that captures the complexities of human relationships in a simple and poignant way. It offers a message of hope and the reminder that, even when things seem uncertain, it's always worth it to try again, to move closer, and to not give up too soon.
