Created in 2007 by solo national touring/recording artist Paul Wright while living in San Diego soaking in the southern California culture. Since conception their live show has caused a quick buzz as they have been asked to open for Tyrone Wells, Pepper, The Wailers and many more gracing many different venues. Wright has been touring himself seven years full-time playing alongside bands like Tobymac, Switchfoot, Shawn McDonald and many more in every state except well Maine.
Rootdown's music falls into the “pop/rock/reggae” category of band and genre, a well-developed musical culture with roots stretching back to the early days of Bob Marley, through the years of Sublime, and into today with many different bands spearheading the direction like Pepper and Slightly Stoopid. Think Beastie Boys meets Beach Boys.
Rootdown released their first self-titled EP in 2007 featuring songs such as “Don’t Walk Away” and “Real Love”. Released in July 2009, Rootdown's new album, “Summer of Love” features tracks such as “Taking Over Me”, “Sweet Love” and the ode to their favorite Oregon Mexican restaurant, “Burrito Boy”. Since its release, it has reached as high as #6 on the Itunes Top 10 Reggae Albums and has been featured on several national radio stations along with many regional stations.
Most recently, Rootdown was selected to showcase at the National Association of Campus Activities West Conference where over 25 college campuses and counting booked Rootdown for Spring 2010 shows.
Real Love
Rootdown Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
I knew my heart was forever changed
I felt the power rise up in me
Strong like the roots in every tree
Real love is the righteous way
Real love come and vibe this way
Real love is the righteous way
I'm gonna love ya till the sun burns ou
t
Gonna love ya till the seas dry up
I'm gonna love ya till I take my last breath
I'll never stop, no I'll never rest
The lyrics of "Real Love" by Rootdown are about the singer's experience of falling in love and how it has transformed them forever. From the moment they first felt this way, they knew that their heart had changed for good. The power of the love they feel is compared to the strength of the roots of a tree. The song advocates for the idea that real love is the only true and righteous way to live, and encourages others to embrace this mindset too. The chorus repeats the message that real love is the way to go, and that the singer themselves believes in this concept wholeheartedly.
The lyrics in this song are fairly straightforward and easy to understand, but there are a few different ways you could interpret them. On one level, the song is clearly about romantic love and the joy and strength it can bring. But you could also interpret it as a broader message about the power of love in general - love for family, friends, or humanity as a whole. On yet another level, the song could be seen as a spiritual or religious message about the importance of living a life based on love and compassion for others.

We are in desperate need of bands like this in this particular hour. Wow, I was a huge Jam Band fan and all of the bands out there right now are putting pure garbage in their lyrics. Even the bands that sound positive put lyrics in their music that are totally against the Bible and for me that's a big deal. Especially after leaving that old lifestyle behind. <3
