Created in 2007 by solo national touring/recording artist Paul Wright while living in San Diego soaking in the southern California culture. Since conception their live show has caused a quick buzz as they have been asked to open for Tyrone Wells, Pepper, The Wailers and many more gracing many different venues. Wright has been touring himself seven years full-time playing alongside bands like Tobymac, Switchfoot, Shawn McDonald and many more in every state except well Maine.
Rootdown's music falls into the “pop/rock/reggae” category of band and genre, a well-developed musical culture with roots stretching back to the early days of Bob Marley, through the years of Sublime, and into today with many different bands spearheading the direction like Pepper and Slightly Stoopid. Think Beastie Boys meets Beach Boys.
Rootdown released their first self-titled EP in 2007 featuring songs such as “Don’t Walk Away” and “Real Love”. Released in July 2009, Rootdown's new album, “Summer of Love” features tracks such as “Taking Over Me”, “Sweet Love” and the ode to their favorite Oregon Mexican restaurant, “Burrito Boy”. Since its release, it has reached as high as #6 on the Itunes Top 10 Reggae Albums and has been featured on several national radio stations along with many regional stations.
Most recently, Rootdown was selected to showcase at the National Association of Campus Activities West Conference where over 25 college campuses and counting booked Rootdown for Spring 2010 shows.

Livin for the weekend wishing that'll never end
I say my clock is robbin me
Bop bop it's mockin me
Can't stop the globe but then my god it's haunting me
Black jack and lottery paid for my lobotomy
Do i believe that i can sing jack black in harmony
Cuz all my friends do ya wanna get down
Cuz this is the sound when we come to your town
Monday tuesday wednesdays around
But here comes thursday and friday now
So here we go again hangin out with all our friends
Livin for the weekend wishing that'll never end
Yo i got that autonomy
My clock is on to me
I threw it in the litter
But on twitter it follows me
Repost this tweet that this week its stalking me
Do i believe that i can see mondays in a different way
Cuz all my friends do ya wanna get down
Cuz this is the sound when we come to your town
Monday tuesday wednesdays around
But here comes thursday and friday now
So here we go again hangin out with all our friends
Livin for the weekend wishing that'll never end
So here we go again hangin out with all our friends
Livin for the weekend wishing that'll never (ever), never (ever), never (ever), never (ever) ends
Hey, do you remember the day (...playball) where we used to play (...)
Outside in the sunset (won't stop, come get it, wont stop, come get it, get it)
Mondays are mundane
Tuesday, wed, thursday just the same
The Rootdown song "Weekend" is about the anticipation and enjoyment of the weekends, when one can escape the mundane routine of work or school and have fun with friends. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, with the singer expressing excitement to be spending time with their friends and hoping that the weekend will never end.
The first verse touches on a common feeling of being robbed of time, with the clock constantly ticking and mocking the singer. They acknowledge that they cannot stop time, but it still haunts them. The second verse adds a technology perspective to the same sentiment, with the singer feeling stalked by their clock even on social media. The use of both traditional and modern ideas of time tracking shows how pervasive this feeling of time being out of one's control can be.
The chorus repeats the theme of wanting to have fun and get down with friends over the weekend, acknowledging that weekdays can be monotonous. The song ends with a repetition of the opening lines, emphasizing the cyclical nature of the idea of weekends being a respite from routine.
