Rose Blossom Punch was started in 1995 as a side project by Aaron Sprinkle and Paul Mumaw. Aaron Sprinkle and Nick Barber (bass) had previously played together in Poor Old Lu. Once that group disbanded, Sprinkle and Mumaw decided to join forces with Terry Coggins and Barber and tackle Rose Blossom Punch full time. Their self-released independent recordings were regional hits and earned the band some national attention. Before Poor Old Lu disbanded though, they released two songs: “Sowing In the Sun” (1995) and “See It In Me” (1996) on Tooth & Nail Records's Art Core (volumes 1 & 2 respectively) compilation CDs. They then signed to Five Minute Walk/SaraBellum Records who put a demo of “Based On A True Story” on their Music For Meals: Take Time To Listen Vol. III sampler (1997). Surprisingly, this didn’t end up on Rose Blossom Punch’s subsequent full length - however it was rerecorded for Aaron Sprinkle’s The Kindest Days album with Paul Mumaw on drums. Their first full-length album, Ephemere, was released on July 10, 1997 on SaraBellum Records.
The next couple of years were spent touring and working out problems with record labels when they finally settled with Jackson Rubio, only to decide that they were going to head their separate ways. They recorded an EP called Sorry To Disappoint You which was supposed to be released on the new label in December 1999, but never was. It laid on the shelf for nearly a year until December 2000 rolled around, when they released it independently through mp3.com.

-august & julius hare
all my friends are lonely
they left me only
minutes in the hole
so i'll fake a listen
sneak a kiss in
and i see you from afar
i know who you are
i can tell you all apart
would you marry me
so we'll be free
for a lovely day
would you care to fall
and selll us all
and would you laugh along the way
and i see you from afar
i know who you are
i can tell you all apart
if you leave it to me she said
you're asking the world
and if you take it from me instead
who will you owe
wouldn't i be freezing
but so alive
if i killed another day
thought i've never fallen
still you mention often
that i wanted to be saved
and i see you from afar
i know who you are
i can tell you all apart
if you leave it to me she said
you're asking the world
and if you take it from me instead
who will you owe
i caught my hand in the door again
what is it for
if you leave it to me she said
who will you owe
The lyrics in "Windswept" by Rose Blossom Punch are introspective and reflective, with a sense of longing and uncertainty about the future. The opening line of the song, "surely half the world must be blind; they can see nothing unless it glitters."-august & julius hare, sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer reflects on the world around them, feeling disconnected from their friends and the people they see from afar. They mention that all their friends are lonely and have left them only "minutes in the hole," indicating a sense of disappointment and abandonment.
The singer tries to fake a connection with those around them by faking a listen and sneaking a kiss, but ultimately realizes that only love is worth investing time in. They ask someone to marry them to find freedom for a lovely day and to sell them all, laughing along the way. However, there is a sense of hesitation and uncertainty, highlighted by the lines "if you leave it to me she said, you're asking the world, and if you take it from me instead, who will you owe" indicating some reluctance to make a decision.
The song ends with the line "I caught my hand in the door again, what is it for? If you leave it to me she said, who will you owe," further emphasizing the theme of uncertainty as the singer struggles to figure out what they want and where they fit in the world.
