For The Best
Rose Cousins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Put me away
I've been to pieces
I've been astray
You take the right
And I'll take what's left
Even just for tonight
It's for the best
You're a tall tree tower
I'm warm beside
We're almost on the dance floor
But not quite
Let's be right here
And let the rest go
This will be the flower
We'll never know
The lyrics to Rose Cousins's song "For The Best" capture the essence of moving on from a relationship that has run its course. The opening lines "Take me off the table, put me away" express the artist's willingness to let go and move on. She acknowledges that she has been broken and lost but is now ready to move forward.
The lines "You take the right, and I'll take what's left, even just for tonight, it's for the best" convey the acceptance of a shared responsibility for the relationship's failure. The artist recognizes that both parties have the right to move on and that it's best for both to do so.
The chorus "You're a tall tree tower, I'm warm beside, we're almost on the dance floor, but not quite, let's be right here and let the rest go, this will be the flower we'll never know" is a powerful metaphor for the missed opportunity in this relationship. The artist acknowledges that she and her partner had something special, but due to circumstances, it wasn't meant to last. She chooses to focus on the present and cherish the memories they had, rather than dwelling on what might have been.
Overall, "For The Best" is a touching song that captures the complexities of love, loss, and moving on.
