One Love
Rose Cousins Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
all those lies that you have told
all these days that flow together
i will stay alone
all these nights i lay not sleeping
meet each sunrise tired and blue
all my dreams of our love keeping
all your words close to me precious
i’ll take with me to heaven above
do not spend your days ungracious
and you will find your one true love
you will find your one love
The lyrics of Rose Cousins's song, One Love, appear to express enduring sadness and disappointment. The first two lines of the song, "all these years I have been waiting, all those lies that you have told," speaks volumes about the frustration the singer has experienced as regards the elusive nature of love. Rather than having the love that she has always hoped for and dreamed of, all she has received are lies and heartbreaks. She then goes on to talk about how she has come to terms with the fact that she is alone, and will stay that way. The pain of not having that one true love is evident from the melancholic tone that runs throughout the song.
The second verse of the song conveys the same level of somberness as the first. The lyrics talk about the singer's sleeplessness and how her unfulfilled dreams of love are keeping her awake. She is undeniably lonely, but her heart remains safe at home because she has resolved that she won't be fooled by love anymore. The last few lines of the song convey a sense of resolve and hope that the listener can cling to despite the melancholic tone of the rest of the song. The singer encourages the listener to be gracious and approach their pursuit of love differently, implying that they will eventually find their one true love.
