Wave
Roseburg Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Movin' around
I'm gonna crash down
What a way to explain
The way we come and go
The times are high and low
The sky is falling away
Movin'
Under your moonlight
Until the moonlight
'Till another blue night
And your moving
'Causes a riptide
You pull me so tight
You move it! Move it!

Like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Moving away, moving away
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Move it, move it, move it
Away

You're moving around
I'm gonna crash down
Thanks to playing these games
(No) there's not a winner now
I can't figure out
Why i'm riding your wa-a-ves, hey!
Movin'
Under your moonlight
Until the moonlight
'Till another blue night
And your moving
'Causes a riptide
You pull me so tight
You move it! move it!

Like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Moving away, moving away
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Move it, move it, move it
Hey!

It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Moving away, moving away
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Move it, move it, move it
Away

A wa-a-ve
A wave
A wa-a-ve
A wave

Mo-ving
Under your moonlight
Until the moonlight
'Till 'nother blue night
And your moving
Causes a riptide
You pull me so tight
You move it! Move it! Move it!

Like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Moving away, moving away
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Move it, move it, move it
Hey!
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Moving away, moving away
It's like a wave, like a wave
Like a wave, like a wave
Move it, move it, move it
Away
A wa-a-ve
A wave
A wa-a-ve
A wave

A wa-a-ve
A wave

Overall Meaning

The Roseburg song "Wave" seems to be about the cyclical nature of life and relationships. The lyrics "movin' around, I'm gonna crash down" suggest the ups and downs that come with life's ebbs and flows. The lines "the times are high and low, the sky is falling away" reinforce this notion. The metaphor of a wave is used throughout, with the suggestion that the subject is being carried by the wave of another person's influence, and that, "your moving causes a riptide, you pull me so tight." While this could be interpreted as a romantic or even sexual relationship, it could also be seen as a commentary on the way people are often swept up in the actions of others without fully understanding why, as the lyrics state, "I can't figure out why I'm riding your waves."

The use of the moon and waves also accentuates the cyclical nature of relationships. The lyric "Under your moonlight until the moonlight, till another blue night," suggests that the singer is only in sync with the other person during specific, fleeting moments. The repetition of the phrase "move it!" throughout the song amplifies the sense of motion and encourages the listener to embrace the ever-changing nature of life.

The mission of this band is something I really admire, having messages that are corrective but edifying. Wholesome. Positive, something different. Not this song as much but it's apparent in a lot of their other ones.
