True
Rosenfeld Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tell me now, who do you see?
Who's the one you love when you look at me?
It's been an act all my life
It won't be long before you realize

I'm not the one
It's just a lie
You fell for a bad impression
My own mirrors
Can't break me down
I can't trust my own reflection

I'm not the one you say I am

Can't walk in my own shoes
Lost what I could lose
I wanted to be anything you would love
A stranger to myself
And to everyone else
Now I can't say what I am made of

I'm not the one
It's just a lie
You fell for a bad impression
My own mirrors
Can't break me down
I can't trust my own reflection

Trapped behind your loving eyes
You keep me caged in my own lies
My life is just a fucking show
And I can't get out
A wish you could free me from myself

But I'm scared to tell you who I am

Overall Meaning

In Rosenfeld's song "True", the artist explores the theme of self-acceptance and being trapped in a facade created for the approval of others. In the first verse, Rosenfeld asks the listener who they see when they look at him and who they think he is. He acknowledges that he has been playing a role all his life, but soon enough, the viewer will see the truth, and he is not the person they believe him to be. The chorus emphasizes that the lie, the bad impression he has created, is what the other person has fallen for, but in truth, he is not that person.

In the second verse, Rosenfeld sings about him being confused about his identity, losing touch with himself, wanting to be anything that someone would love. He admits that he is a stranger to himself and everyone else, and he cannot say what he is made of. The chorus is repeated in this verse, emphasizing that he is not the person people think he is, but rather, he has created this image to be approved by others. In the bridge section, Rosenfeld adds that he feels trapped behind the loving eyes of the other person, who has unwittingly trapped him in his own lies, and his life feels like a never-ending show from which he cannot escape.

Overall, "True" is a poignant commentary on the struggle for self-acceptance in a world where people are quick to judge and categorize us. Rosenfeld's honest lyrics and emotive vocals show the pain and fear that comes with living a lie and the hope for freedom and acceptance.

A true artist is able to find the words everyone else struggles to find and express.
Rosenfeld has perfected that,The lyrics sadden me because of the actual emotion expressed in his voice,But brings me relief because it's something I would of never found the words to say.

This man is a true one🌟
