Rosi is indeed a long way from home, but certainly in the right place to showcase her unique talent for rich, dark melodies and a voice that not only draws you in, but still haunts you the next day. While living in LA, Rosi was inundated with creative lessons from violin, to voice, to acting. At 19, she decided to focus on singing and picked up her first guitar, teaching herself to play and write songs. Six weeks later, she was performing at her first open mic. Since then, Rosi has played the Acoustic Playhouse, Molly Malones, The Whiskey and Genghis Cohen in LA and The Bitter End, The Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall and CBs Gallery in NYC.
In the past few years, Rosi has worked with a number of acclaimed writers and producers from all over the world, including Jeff Cohen, Boots, Richard Cuason, Nate Campany, Tim Gordine, Richard Lobb, Pete Gordeno, Marc Swersky, Robert Conley, etc.
But its her continuing collaboration with singer/songwriter Jamie Hartman (Ben's Brother) that has yielded numerous songs, including the single “Let Me Out”, from Ben’s Brother debut CD (Relentless/EMI/Virgin). The song was recently featured on an episode of “Grey’s Anatomy”.
Rosi was recently mentioned in Billboard Magazine. She was the winner of the first ASCAP Robert Allen Award for songwriting excellence, for which she performed at Lincoln Center. Finally settled in New York, Rosi has already kick-started the momentum that launches careers.
Flicker
Rosi Golan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But if I believe that I can get through this, maybe I’ll find that I can get somewhere
Cause my heart’s in two places and I’m feeling like candle burning at both ends
Till it flickers, flickers, flickers
Out on the road watching the sky change, oh jealousy born from this moment
But if I was gold, I wouldn’t feel it, I would just know it’s only a moment
Cause my heart’s in two places and I’m feeling like candle burning at both ends
Till it flickers, flickers, flickers
And my hearts in two places, where I am and where I’m going
Burning at both ends till it flickers, flickers, flickers
Show me where I’m going, I will take it in
Even without knowing, I will take it in
maybe I’ll find that I could get somewhere
The lyrics of Rosi Golan's song "Flicker" depicts a person in the midst of confusion about the direction they are headed in. The lyrics ponder on the issue of making progress without clear direction or signs that point to the right path. Rosi sings about having faith that we can make it through difficult times even if we do not know the path that leads to where we are supposed to go. The chorus of the song is a metaphor that compares the experience of the writer to that of a candle flame burning at both ends.
The lyrics suggest that the writer's heart is in two places, which could mean they are conflicted about where they are going and where they are coming from. This could metaphorically imply the conflict between aspirations and reality. The first verse highlights the author's frustration at not being able to find a signpost that points them to their desired destination. It takes a strong sense of faith to make progress irrespective of the absence of explicit direction.
In summary, the lyrics of "Flicker" focus on the theme of progress in the absence of clear direction or signs. The song encourages listeners to have faith that they can make it through difficult times, even if they do not have a clear idea of where they are headed.
