In the 1990s Thomas met Trey Many through mutual friends and began playing shows with Velour 100. They recorded one EP together in 1999 and played a few short tours, during which time she met Damien Jurado and Pedro the Lion. She then moved to Seattle to attend Cornish College briefly before deciding to focus on a solo recording career. Her appearance on the song "Parking Lot", from Damien Jurado's album Ghost of David, brought her to the attention of famed record label Sub Pop who signed her in 2000.
Her debut album When We Were Small was released on 22 January 2001. The album featured Eric Fisher (who Thomas met at performance art school in Seattle) on guitar and keyboards and Andy Myers on drums.
Fisher and Myers returned for 2003's follow-up Only With Laughter Can You Win.
Thomas released her third album, If Songs Could Be Held, in 2005.
Her fourth album These Friends of Mine, was recorded in collaboration with Sufjan Stevens who plays guitar and banjo as well as providing some vocals, and Denison Witmer.
She released a holiday album called A Very Rosie Christmas in November 2008 through her own record label.
Her 2012 album is entitled "With Love". The same year she relocated to New York City from Seattle.

Christmastime Is Here
Rosie Thomas Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Time for toys and time for cheer
We've been good, but we can't last
Hurry Christmas, hurry fast
Want a plane that loops the loop
Me I want a hula hoop
We can hardly stand the wait
Please Christmas don't be late
Christmas, Christmas-time is near
Time to look back on the year
Please bring joy to mom and dad
Help my brother, he's been sad
Fill our home with laughter too
And a lovely pot for soup
Love for all and peace and past
Oh Christmas, get here fast
Christmas, Christmas-time is here
Time for memories, time for tears
Comfort those who need a friend
Fill their hearts with happiness
May they know he came for them
Oh Christmas, where you been?
Christmas come, and please don't be late
Oh please don't be late
Christmas come, can't stand the wait
So please don't be late
Christmas come, the world cannot wait
So please don't be late
Christmas come, and please don't be late
Please don't be late
Christmas come, we can't stand the wait,
So please don't be late
Christmas come, the world cannot wait
So please don't be late
Christmas come, please don't be late
Oh please don't be late
The Rosie Thomas song "Christmastime Is Here" captures the excitement, anticipation, and longing for Christmas to finally arrive. The opening lyrics immediately set the scene for the festive season with the words "Christmas, Christmas-time is here, time for toys and time for cheer." The song then reflects on the impatience felt by children as they wait for Christmas Day, "We've been good, but we can't last, hurry Christmas, hurry fast." The lyrics "Want a plane that loops the loop, me, I want a hula hoop" convey the child-like innocence and simple desires that Christmas can bring. The song then takes on a more contemplative tone, as the lyrics reflect on the year gone by and the need for comfort and joy in difficult times. The lyrics "Fill their hearts with happiness, may they know he came for them" succeed in emphasizing the true meaning of Christmas.
The repetition of "Please Christmas don't be late" throughout the song injects a sense of urgency and eagerness for the day to finally arrive. The melody is enchanting and captures the spirit of the holidays, with its gentle guitar strumming and soft vocal harmonies. Overall, the lyrics of "Christmastime Is Here" successfully convey the excitement, anticipation, and contemplative nature that can come with the holiday season.
