Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

A fabulous creation
A danceable solution
To teenage revolution
Do the Strand love
When you feel love
It's the new way
That's why we say
Do it on the tables
Quaglino's place or mabel's
Slow and gentle
Sentimental
All styles served here
Louis seize he prefer
Laissez-faire Le Strand
Tired of the tango
Fed up with fandango
Dance on moonbeams
Slide on rainbows
In furs or blue jeans
You know what I mean
Do the Strand
Had your fill of quadrilles
The madison and cheap thrills
Bored with the Beguine
The samba isn't your scene
They're playing our tune
By the pale moon
We're incognito
Down the Lido
And we like the Strand
Arabs at oasis
Eskimos and Chinese
If you feel blue
Look through who's who
See La Goulue
And Nijinsky
Do the Strandsky
Weary of the Waltz
And mashed potato schmaltz
Rhododendron
Is a nice flower
Evergreen
It lasts forever
But it can't beat Strand power
The sphynx and Mona Lisa
Lolita and Guernica
Did the Strand
In Roxy Music's song "Do The Strand," the lyrics introduce a new sensation, a fabulous creation of a danceable solution to teenage revolution. "Do the Strand" is a call to action to embrace the world's changing culture and do things differently. The song urges listeners to escape the mundanity of traditional dances like the quadrilles, madison, and tango and embrace the new way by performing a dance called the Strand.
The song invokes images of elites in comfortable places like Quaglino's place and Mabel's, where people are free to do the Strand on tables. All styles are served at the Strand, and it's perfect for everyone. The Louis seize prefers the Laissez-faire Le Strand; however, even people tired of the tango or fed up with fandango can find their rhythm on the Strand. It's a dance that transcends cultural barriers and is perfect for everyone regardless of their clothes, be it in blue jeans or furs.
In conclusion, "Do The Strand" encourages people to defy the conventional dancing styles, embrace new culture, and do something sensational. Bryan Ferry, the writer, was heavily influenced by the extravagant nightlife and fashion of the '70s. He wanted to create something different from traditional "love" songs, and "Do The Strand" was the result.
