Angel Eyes
Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Angel eyes, am I deceived or did you sigh?
For all I know you let you love light
Shine on me
Angel eyes, you never close, who's got the time?
I can wait until your love light
Shine on me
Angel eyes, seems to me you fill the skies
I'm far below so let your love light
Shine on me
Angel eyes, on the wing and open wide

No matter how high the moon
Shine down on me

Overall Meaning

The song Angel Eyes by Roxy Music is a beautiful ballad about the singer's deep desire for his lover. The lyrics are quite symbolic in nature, with the reference to "Angel Eyes" being a metaphor for the love and affection that the singer yearns for. In the first two lines of the song, the singer sounds unsure and questions whether his lover actually wants him, or if he is mistaken. However, he soon turns to a more hopeful tone, expressing that he believes his lover does want him.

The second and third verses are a clear indication of the singer's deep longing for his lover's attention and affection. He describes her eyes as all-encompassing, filling the skies and opening wide, and the moon itself shining down on him. This longing for love is further emphasized in the chorus when he sings "Shine on me," asking his lover to give him the love and attention that he so deeply desires.

Overall, the song Angel Eyes is a powerful expression of love and longing, with poetic lyrics that beautifully convey the singer's emotions.

Agreed-- he also did a nice job on "Oh Yeah" and "Same Old Scene"-- the whole "Flesh and Blood" album for that matter!

Very modern for 1979, way ahead of its time. This is pure chique pop!

It was 1979, the year the 80s started.

@@jackgrant9301some have said the eighties began with Bowie's Isolar II tour, 1978.

8 years ago I was sitting next to my partner and we had a pregnancy test, the radio was on and the very second she turned to me and said " I'm pregnant" this song started , all the emotions I felt, elation, fear, worry, happiness and apprehension , now every time I hear it it reminds me how lucky I am to have my wonderful son and also that moment in time, still as fresh as at the moment it happened..
