Baby Baby Baby
Roy Buchanan w/ Delbert McClinton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, it's finally sinkin' in, you ain't comin' back
I'll get my old guitar down off the rack
And sing the blues about you, baby, sing the blues about you, baby
It's really bringin' me down, I'm just mopin' around
I got the blues about you, baby

Well, the hardest thing honey 'bout havin' the blues
Like walkin' the floor in a dead man's shoes
I got the blues about you, baby, I got the blues about you, baby
Maybe this homemade wine will wash you outta my mind
I got the blues about you, baby

I keep knockin' at the door but you won't let me in
I'll be back tomorrow night a knockin' again
I got the blues about you, baby, I got the blues about you, baby
I'm a fool for you, I got nothin' to lose
I got the blues about you, baby, alright

Well, now honey, if we had a little heart to heart
Maybe we could find us a brand new start
I got the blues about you, baby, I got the blues about you, baby
Well, I'm a fool for you, I ain't got nothin' to lose
I'm a fool about you, baby

Well, now I can't sleep but just lay in bed
Starin' at the ceiling, going outta my head
I got the blues about you, baby, I got the blues about you, baby
It's really bringin' me down, I'm just a mopin' around
I got the blues about you, baby, alright kid

You know you really oughta be ashamed of yourself
For breakin' my heart and ruinin' my health
I got the blues about you, baby, I got the blues about you, baby
Well, you committed the crime but I'm doin' the time
I got the blues about you, baby

I got the blues about you baby, I got the blues about you, baby

I'm a fool for you, I ain't got nothin' to lose
I got the blues about you, baby

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Baby Baby Baby" by Roy Buchanan and Delbert McClinton deal with a broken heart and the struggle to move on from a lost love. The song expresses the emotions of the singer who understands that the relationship is over and the idea that music could help him cope with his blues. He decides to take out his old guitar, and thus begins to sing a blues song. He confesses, "I'll get my old guitar down off the rack/ And sing the blues about you, baby/ Sing the blues about you, baby" - his only way of dealing with the sadness that he is feeling.

He further understands that dealing with unrequited love is the hardest, comparable to walking the floor in a dead man's shoes, thus demonstrating his profound agony. The singer cannot help but obsess over his lost love, leading him to mope around continuously, leading to sleepless nights, staring at the ceiling, and feeling out of his mind. Nonetheless, he remains hopeful for a chance to make things better, hoping that they could "find us a brand new start."

Overall, "Baby Baby Baby" resonates with those who have experienced a broken heart and found solace in music to deal with sadness. The song's three-chord progression is simple, yet the lyrics are potent, and the melancholy is palpable, making it a classic blues song for those nights when you just need to sit down and feel the blues.

I had this on an Old Alligator Records comp. Album DELBERT is a National Treasure, and Roy was another Great Guitarist who had a Tragic End to his Life!

@minetteh1001

I love this.

@davidmartin7081

Very, very nice. Someone must have gave Roy a tranquilizer. He was really chilled out. Delbert can sing anything I believe and do it well! The 2 of them together on this is a real treat. Kinda reminded me of Motown.
Excellent!

@GeorgiaBoy1961

Delbert is among the best R&B singers alive today, and he can handle other styles just as well - including country and other roots styles. This is a very nicely done version of a song I first heard done by the great Joe Simon. Nice work by Roy, too.

@MrMusicguyma

Roy and Delbert, two roadhouse masters.

@billythekid5258

Gawd, I love Roy!!! Nobody plays the Tele like he does! I still listen to him all the time! RIP, my man!!

@founeetropal1396

Have every Roy Buchanan ever recorded & saw him live at the Massey Hall in Toronto Ca. in 71 3rd row center, Most awesome Tely stretch picker ever. No pedals no effects just pure gut wrenching squealing blues guitar with his Fender twin turned backwards. No matter who steals his licks there will never be another Roy Buchanan. RIP my friend

@maxxxx1972

everything he touch became gold!

@ThePansye

 Waylon would have been proud too!
