Sonic Boom
Roy Woods Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One forty-five AM, almost done

I could pop another pill tonight
Even though I don't really want one
The Xanax got me on a flight
I don't need much
I just want to get a buzz from the blunt
Sipping berry cheer on my own
I just want to wyle with you
Shawty outside getting high while I do that shit on my own
Know I'm top five for the week and the night
On the billboards dressing her on her own
I drink alcohol in the fall and the summer
Or winter time cold, my beer ice cold

She ain't outdoors and her heart just cold as is
As is, as is, as is
She ain't outdoors and her heart just cold as is
As is, as is, as is
She ain't outdoors and her heart just cold as is
As is, as is, as is
She ain't outdoors and her heart just cold as is
As is, as is, as is

Oh
Yeah
Oh
Yeah

And her heart just cold as is
As is, as is, as is
I don't want much, I just need your love
As is, as is, as is

Baby I'm trying
I need it a lot
But now you call
As is, as is
Baby I am falling

Away from you
But I know

Overall Meaning

Roy Woods's song "Sonic Boom" portrays a story of a person who is seeking an escape from reality by indulging in drugs and alcohol. The lyrics seemingly talk about a night out with friends where the singer is popping pills and sipping on his drink. He hints that the Xanax has made him feel light and that he does not need much to get high. He is willing to smoke weed and get a buzz while feeling lonely. He further suggests that his music is doing well, and he is raking in dividends from his music in the top five positions on the charts while hanging out with a lady.

The second half of the song is focused on the singer's relationship issues. He speaks about a woman he loves but who is distant and has a "cold" heart. He longs for her love and attention, but as she is nowhere to be found, he is forced to turn to drugs and alcohol to fill the void. He is falling away from her but is still trying to hold on to the relationship. The line "I don't want much, I just need your love" depicts the singer's emotional state and his willingness to sacrifice anything to have his love returned.
