Strangers
Royal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One kid from Brooklyn
The other from Queens
Met on a crosstown train
They cut from class, and they both agreed
A bottle down at Coney's all they need

A handful of kicks they stashed under their belts
But Queens stepped on Brooklyn's time
Now a new gang's there with icy stares
The stranger said hello and that's goodbye

He's got more faces than the cards you drew
You can't say spit, but you know it's true
When it all comes down, and the deal is through
The stranger made a buyer of me and you

She smoked the filters, and he smoked 'em straight
On gin and jazz they agreed
A pack of nights, went spinnin' round
In no time they were shacking up midtown

A vow it would seem, to fill out that dream
But life ain't what you think
Cause where once stood two, there now stand three
The stranger now divides their company

Mr. Down On His Luck
Living shopping cart dreams
He works the end of my street
With gushing words and daily dimes
I buy myself a little peace of mind

The workday is long
And when night draws her shadow
I get tired and so beat
I passed right by the man in need
The stranger led me faster up the street

I thought I was in a different place
The stranger just looked me dead in the face
I bought his wares in stead of grace
Bought a bill of sale instead of grace

He's got more faces than the cards you drew
You can't say spit, you know it's true

When it all comes down, and the deal is through
The stranger, he made a buyer of me and you

Overall Meaning

The Stranger by Royal Crown Revue tells the story of two individuals who meet on a crosstown train and embark on a journey together. They cut classes and head to Coney's with alcohol and drugs stashed under their belts. However, when they reach Coney's, they find a new gang with icy stares, and the stranger's greeting is the only thing that they get before leaving. The song highlights the theme of a mysterious stranger who is always present in their lives, making them question their decisions and inevitably making them buyers of something.

The two individuals meet a woman who they spend their nights within midtown. However, their vow to fill out their dreams gets interrupted by the stranger, who now divides their company. The stranger the two individuals knew now becomes something else, leading them to more buyers' remorse rather than fulfillment of their dreams.

The final part of the song talks about the singer's encounter with a man in need but ignores him, buying himself a “little peace of mind” instead. The stranger symbolizes the buyer's remorse, and every time the singer encounters him, he is left with a story and a lesson.

how can I forget the lyrics for a song that hits home way too hard?

There's nothing left inside. I've found a whole new low.
My heart is open wide, with no love to show.
I know I got high, but you didn't have to leave me so-...

Brother beat me blue, Sister bled me dry.
That's why I count on you, when you don't treat me right.
I know I held tight but you didn't have to leave so-

Hollow, hollow.
I don't need you tonight so don't,
Follow, follow.
Left alone in the valley so,
Hollow, hollow.
I know you wanna be mine, so don't
Follow, follow.

Lost my heavy heart, it won't be replaced.
I can't fill the void, walk the empty space.
So remember my face- everytime you are left feeling so-

Hollow, hollow.
I don't need you tonight so don't,
Follow, follow.
Left alone in the valley so,
Hollow, hollow.
I know you wanna be mine, so don't
Follow, follow.

There's nothing left inside.
I found a whole new low.
My heart is open wide.
With no love to show.

'Cause I'm a thousand miles of danger if I make a better stranger-
A thousand miles of danger if I make a better stranger-
Thousand miles of danger if I make a better stranger of you.

I don't need you tonight, so don't-
Follow, follow.
Left alone in the valley, so
Hollow, hollow.
I know you wanna be mine, so don't
Follow, follow-
Yeah.

Hollow (x15 lol)

'Cause I'm a thousand miles of danger if I make a better stranger of you...

Typhoons is great, but the entire first album is a masterpiece.

@gabrieladdison

First album still slaps the hardest

@agusdiaz_13

@@gabrieladdison they are, but the first one is completely raw and doesn't have as much production as the latest one. That's why it's my favourite

@@DavieMahon Out of the Black is my favourite one I think, but Figure It Out and Come On Over aren't far away

This song is a good example of a song that you can listen over and over again, just like their album

@archieprentice918

in the past I listened to these song obsessively. I'm slightly more relaxed about my listening these day. But, ultimately, I completely agree

@meehrbluee6609

I listen my whole life to hiphop. But this ... this insane. The first rock that i feel. The other tracks from this band too. So much fire

Respect from a “hiphop-head“. Cant understand why this band dont popping off in his genre.
