Mencel attended college in Philly for one year before dropping out to pursue music as a career. Her first recorded appearance, in 2014, was as featured vocalist on the song "Limelight" by young Australian EDM producer Just a Gent. The track was hugely popular, going on to rack up over 2.5 million listens on SoundCloud. Mencel was pleased by the reaction, but totally unprepared to find herself followed on Twitter by enormously successful New York EDM duo the Chainsmokers, who then contacted her to say they loved her voice and would be interested in collaborating with her. The result was "Roses," which she co-wrote and sang lead vocals on; the song went to number six on the U.S. Billboard charts, propelling her to fame at the tender age of 21.

But I ain't got no diamonds
No, I don't even like 'em
Oh I, I, I, I don't need attention
If I got your attention
Then, baby, that's perfection
All the cars and the pearls and the gold in the world
All the stars and the lights and the glamorous nights
No, they ain't for us
So high, high, high, we tasted high life
And it ain't for us
No, it ain't for us
Baby, you make me feel goddamn famous
I feel so goddamn famous
You take what you want
Pieces of me, and my soul, and my heart
You make me feel goddamn famous
Oh I, I, I don't stress the money
Nothing's gonna stop me
Yeah, I'll know that you got me
Oh I, I, I don't need nobody
Don't need no one to watch me
'Cause you're my paparazzi
All the cars and the pearls and the gold in the world
No, it ain't for us
All the stars and the lights and the glamorous nights
No, they ain't for us
So high, high, high, we tasted high life
And it ain't for us
No, it ain't for us
Baby, you make me feel goddamn famous
I feel so goddamn famous
You take what you want
Pieces of me, and my soul, and my heart
You make me feel goddamn famous
Won't let go of ya
I'm at home with ya
No one could ever buy our love in paradise
I won't let go of ya
I'm at home with ya
No one could ever buy our love in paradise
Baby, you make me feel goddamn famous
I feel so goddamn famous
You take what you want
Pieces of me, and my soul, and my heart
You make me feel goddamn famous
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Baby, you make me feel goddamn famous
The opening lines of the song "Famous" by Rozes express the sentiment that the singer feels like a diamond, even if she doesn't have any actual diamonds. For her, fame and material wealth are not as important as the attention and love of her significant other. She doesn't have any interest in cars, pearls, gold, or the trappings of high society. She's satisfied with the simple things in life and focuses on the love between her and her partner.
The chorus amplifies this point by stating that her partner makes her feel famous, not because of material possessions or a life of luxury but simply because of the attention and love they share. But the love between the two individuals is not something that can be bought, even with all the riches in the world. The world of the rich and famous may be tempting, but the singer and her partner realize that it's not for them. Instead, they focus on the simple pleasures in their love for each other.
The song "Famous" is a testament to the fact that fame and material wealth do not necessarily equate to happiness in life. It reminds us that the simple things in life, such as love and relationships, are often the most important. This song expresses the fact that what truly makes us feel famous is the love of those around us, rather than material possessions or societal status.
