Chorus2
The lyrics to RuPaul's song Sexy Drag Queen celebrate the art form of drag and the performer's identity as a glamorous, confident, and captivating figure. The repeated refrain of "La da di la da da, the glamazon" emphasizes the larger-than-life, almost mythic quality of the drag queen persona. The song's message is one of self-assurance and pride - the performer knows they are admired and respected, and revels in the attention they receive. The chorus reinforces this message, contrasting the phrase "sexy drag queen" with the more neutral "drag queen," emphasizing the performer's ability to command attention and evoke desire.
The lyrics also touch on the performer's origins and ambitions. They reference the performer's mother, who encouraged their talents and predicted their success. This suggests that the drag performer is not simply a self-absorbed party animal, but a passionate and dedicated artist who is committed to their craft. The line "lip syncing for da money" also acknowledges the economic realities of drag performance, hinting at the hard work and hustle that are required to make a living in this field.
Overall, Sexy Drag Queen is a celebration of the creativity, beauty, and strength of drag performers. It celebrates their authenticity and uniqueness, and encourages others to look beyond stereotypes and prejudices to appreciate the artistry of drag performance.
