Yo solamente necesito agradecerte
La enseñanza de tus noches
Que me alejan de la muerte.
Café La Humedad, billar y reunión...
Sábado con trampas. ¡Qué linda función!
Yo simplemente te agradezco las poesías
Que la escuela de tus noches
Le enseñaron a mis días.
Eternamente te agradezco las poesías
Que la escuela de tus noches
Le enseñaron a mis días.
The song "Café La Humedad" by Rubén Rada is an ode to a local hangout, a café that serves as a place of comfort and solace for the singer. The opening lines describe a rainy, chilly day where the singer's breath fogs up the blue glass of the old café bar. Despite the fact that the singer's coffee is cold and there are several ashtrays around, he still visits the café every time it rains. The only company he has is a cat who destroys the cord of his shoe with pleasure.
The chorus of the song praises the café as a place for billiards and socializing, where the singer learns valuable lessons from the "school of its nights" that keep him from feeling hopeless. The singer thanks the café for its "poetry" that shaped his life. The final verse expresses the singer's loneliness and longing for the "eternal bar" of Gaona and Boyacá, where he returns to reminisce with the few friends who remain and relive the past.
The song captures a sense of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time, where companionship and comfort could be found in a neighborhood café. The café becomes a symbol for the community and the memories created there.
