Western Wallflower
Ruby Haunt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't notice
Anything
I'm too frightened
By everything

You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart

I can't promise
Anything
I'm too taken
By everything

You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart

You cause a flood in my heart
You cause a flood in my heart

Overall Meaning

The song "Western Wallflower" by Ruby Haunt is a melancholic and introspective tune that delves into themes of anxiety and the overwhelming emotions that come with falling in love. The opening stanza, "I don't notice anything / I'm too frightened by everything" sets the tone for the rest of the song. The singer is caught up in their own fears and anxieties to the point where they are unable to fully engage with the world around them. They are too consumed by their own worries to see anything else.

The theme of falling in love emerges in the chorus as the singer sings repeatedly, "You cause a flood in my heart." This poetic imagery conveys the overwhelming nature of love and how it can feel like it's taking over one's entire being. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the intensity of this feeling and how it's something that the singer cannot escape even if they wanted to. The final stanza, "I can't promise anything / I'm too taken by everything" further emphasizes that the singer is consumed by their emotions and unable to make any guarantees or commitments.

Overall, "Western Wallflower" is a hauntingly beautiful song that portrays the complexity of human emotions and how they can often feel like a flood that we are unable to control.

Yeah. I would definitely watch a film with a soundtrack by Ruby Haunt.

Oof this takes me back to when I’d rarely leave my apartment. Lying to my neighbors about how happy living there made me and how I was on my way to fetch a dozen eggs, but I’d withhold that it wasan attempt to fill an empty fridge and my stomach. Bad roommates. Bad state of mind. Bad weather. Then this song encapsulated it perfectly the day I went for yet another egg run down the street.
