They have stated that they are on a mission to bring back soul into electronic music, and are quoted as saying: “We aren’t just electronic bedroom producers, and we’re not just guitarists and pianists who don’t know much about making a beat”. They grew up on everything from grime to jazz and blues, from hip-hop to house, and state: “You can’t really box us into a category, we’re more about musicality, songwriting and broader influences. We are Sly and the Family Stone, Todd Edwards and Dr. Dre in a cheeseburger!”
The original Rudimental trio go back a long way. Piers and Locksmith grew up on the same road in Hackney, with Kesi living just around the corner in Stoke Newington, where he went to the same school as Labrinth and Professor Green. Amir joined the collective in mid-2011 after working with them on some remixes.

Bright lights, big city, gotta take it all
When all I gotta do is walk away
Then I know I'll feel better
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
I don't need that, I don't need that
You said before I don't need that, I don't need that
Always find it hard to understand
Sometimes things don't go to plan
When all I gotta do is walk away
Then I know I'll feel better
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool to love me back
You're too cool to love me, but it's cool I don't need that
I don't need that, I don't need that
You said before I don't need that, I don't need that
I want you, I want you yeah, I want you, I want you
I want you to say I want you, I want you to say I want you
To say I want you, to say I want you
To say I want you, yeah yeah
You said it before, you said it before
You said it before, you said it before
You said it before, you said it before
You said it before, you said it before
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool, I don't need that
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool, I don't need that
You're too cool to love me, you're too cool, I don't need that
You're too cool to love me, I don't need that
The song "Too Cool" by Rudimental featuring Ella Eyre talks about the struggle of wanting someone who is too cool to love the person back. The lyrics portray the singer outside, walking down the streets of a city, trying to take it all in but feeling empty inside because they can't have the person they want. The singer acknowledges that they just need to walk away to feel better, but their desire for the person makes it difficult for them to let go. The lyrics emphasize the frustration and confusion the singer feels when they realize that the person they want is too cool to love them back.
The repetitive lines "you're too cool to love me, but it's cool I don't need that" emphasize the idea of the singer trying to convince themselves that they don't need the person they want. It's a way to protect their own emotions by justifying why they shouldn't feel bad about not having the person they desire. The song ends with the singer repeating the line "you said it before," which can be interpreted as the person they want telling them that they're not interested before.
Overall, "Too Cool" is a relatable song for anyone who's experienced unrequited love or feelings of not being good enough for someone they want. The lyrics describe the internal struggle of trying to move on from someone who is out of reach but still feeling the desire to have them.
