To the puzzle of my life
Should I let bygones be bygones
Take what's left and make it right
Why not take it at face value
See the picture black and white
My night vision's kind of blurry
Get out of my way, get out of my way
From the beginning to the now
We done come a long way (I see the world in black and white)
I just wanna get higher (higher)
Set the city on fire (fire)
By the hair on my back
Won't have it no other way (won't have it no other way)
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Should I savor every moment
Like we're runnin' out of time
Should I let bygones be bygones
Just to ease each other's minds
Why not take it at face value
See the picture black and white
My night vision's kind of blurry
But I'll try
Get out of my way, get out of my way (get out of my way) (I see the world in black and white)
From the beginning to the now (beginning to the now)
We done come a long way (come a long way)
I just wanna get higher (higher)
Set the city on fire (fire)
By the hair on my back
Won't have it no other way (Won't have it no other way)
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
I see the world in black and white
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
I see the world in black and white (oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya)
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
I see the world in black and white (oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya)
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
I see the world in black and white (oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya)
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
Oh ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya
In the first verse of Rudy Mancuso's song Black & White, he is contemplating whether he should gather all the pieces of his life and try to make something out of what is left. He is wondering if he should let go of the past and focus on the present. The second verse repeats the same question, asking if he should savor every moment, knowing that time is limited. The chorus then follows, where Mancuso reflects on the progress he has made so far, that he has come a long way, but he still wants to go higher and make an impactful change, symbolized by setting the city on fire. He concludes that he won't settle for anything other than his way, which is seemingly represented as black and white.
The lyrics of Black & White signify a deep introspection into life that many people can relate to. Mancuso is questioning his choices and trying to make sense of his life, weighing the pros and cons of various options. He seems to be grappling with something that is not straightforward - perhaps it is a metaphor for relationships, career or life in general. However, despite the confusion and the blurry night vision, he is determined to achieve his goals and set the world alight.
