My song won't be as refined or grandiose as Schubert's

And I can't begin like Irving Berlin.
My songwriting skills aren't as polished as Irving Berlin's, but that doesn't matter

My song, though a poet would never OK,
My song may not be approved by poets or critics

My song, still you know what I'm striving to say.
But regardless of that, you will understand the message and emotion behind my song

My words may be crude; the tune may be wrong,
I accept that my song may not be written well or sound perfect

But you'll find my heart in my song.
Nevertheless, you will find that my song is written with the utmost sincerity and love in my heart
