My Song
Rudy Vallee & His Connecticut Yankees Lyrics

All my pretty speeches are a bust
And so I must try something new.
I've been sitting up the whole night long
Writing a song all about you.
I don't care if it's a big success;
As long as it will change your 'no' to 'yes'.
My song won't appeal to a lover of art.
My song will reveal what I feel in my heart.
It won't have so much of Franz Schubert's touch.
And I can't begin like Irving Berlin.
My song, though a poet would never OK,
My song, still you know what I'm striving to say.
My words may be crude; the tune may be wrong,
But you'll find my heart in my song.
The song "My Song" by Rudy Vallée is a story of a man who has been unsuccessful in winning over the woman he desires. He decides that his previous efforts have not worked, and he must try something new to win her over. The man spends the entire night writing a song about the woman he loves, hoping that it will finally change her mind about him. He does not care if the song is a big success or not, as long as it changes her "no" to "yes."
The chorus of the song talks about how the song will not appeal to a lover of art or have the touch of famous composers such as Franz Schubert or Irving Berlin. Despite this, the man believes that the song will still reveal what he feels in his heart. He acknowledges that his words may be crude, and the tune may be wrong, but he believes that the woman will find his heart in the song. The song is a beautiful representation of how sometimes the simplest things can convey the most profound emotions.

My, how simple beautiful...they don't make tunes and lyrics like this anymore!
@Bigband78
I had to listen to this to recall it.I have a Rudy Vallee torch song list and this is not one of his best.His early torch songs from 1929-30 are best.
@pixibobcat
Even though many of his earlier songs might be technically better, this one comes out special because of the exhilarating tune and heartwarming lyrics! (More important than mere technique!)

My, how beautiful...They just don't make music like this anymore!
@pixibobcat
While this song may not be the best of Rudy's offerings, (and it is also a little scratchy), I just love the tune and the heartwarming lyrics! It's a winner in my opinion...because a good tune and good lyrics are truly important for a record's success!

Listened to the song you referred me to, but it didn't seem as good as "My Song." There's only one year between the songs, and his voice couldn't have deteriorated that much! (Took me a while to realize that "puddytat" referred to my baby bobcat icon!)
