I wonder why the bass sings a D (rather, scale-degree 2) at 0:35. The ascending perfect 4th motif is also present in the tenor and soprano, so I feel like the notation of the tonic in m. 16 would at least be accurate.


Well spotted. I have no idea. I checked CPDL and they had a link of a manuscript in the Vatican Library. I link it here. The bass sings a fourth. (The present score is transposed up a minor third.) So the Bass has the same note (A) in measure 16 as in m. 15.
