Rufio released their debut recording in 2001 on The Militia Group label, Perhaps, I Suppose. The band returned in June 2003 with MCMLXXXV (released on the Nitro label), which was recorded with the aid of producer Nick Rasculinecz who has also recorded with Foo Fighters and Rancid. Rufio went on to play on the Warped Tour that summer following the release of their second album. Their third album The Comfort of Home was released in July 2005. Again, the band went on to join tour that fall with MxPx and Relient K after the "The Comfort of Home" release.
In late January, 2006 bassist Jon Berry and drummer Mike Jimenez left the ban due to creative differences. Following the loss of these two members the band pulled out of their tour with No Use For A Name in early 2006. While no official statement had then been made regarding a breakup, in a 2006 interview, No Use for a Name acknowledged as much.
On Thursday 5th April 2007 the band announced on their MySpace page that they were to have an official farewell show on June 1st 2007 at The Glass House, Pomona CA followed by a South American tour. The statement in full reads: "Farewell show and South American tour. well... its been a while friends... and we've finally decided that its time to do an official farewell show with all the members of Rufio on June 1st. On Tuesday, August 4th 2009, Rufio posted a myspace blog announcing that they were already in the midst of a new C.D.
Rufio released their newest EP on January 19, 2010. It is titled, "The Loneliest EP," and it features four brand new tracks. Released through The Militia Group, the tracks include "All That Lasts," and "The Loneliest." The other tracks are acoustic versions of the previous two songs. New members of Rufio include Taylor Albaugh (bass) and Terry Stirling (drums).
On July 27, 2010, Rufio released their 4th album, Anybody Out There. This was followed by worldwide touring. In October 2010, Clark Domae announced that he was leaving the band to pursue other projects. In April 2011, Terry Stirling Jr. left Rufio to pursue other endeavors.

I got to see you coming from below
I want to feel the sunlight in my hair
So keep coming
We can take it slow
Oh, we can drive just a little faster
'Cause even when
So keep holding
Shut the windows, bolt the doors we're gone
We can run, we can run
So we'll race towards the sun
We can sing, so we'll sing about us
Feel the rush, let it show
See your face, let it go
Just say yes, and we'll sing about us
I think I found a way out do you believe?
Fallen to the floor
You're going to be the one to surrender
So keep coming
Head in from the cold nights
And feeling tired just take a deep breath
And then fill your lungs with excitement
So keep holding
Shut the windows, bolt the doors we're gone
We can run, we can run
So we'll race towards the sun
We can sing, so we'll sing about us
Feel the rush, let it show
See your face, let it go
Just say yes, and we'll sing about us
I got you right next to me
Driving out past these dead end holes
I want to feel everything we're going up
We'll make it golden and glisten alone
Head in from the cold
But we're getting really close
So we'll sing about, sing about us
I think I found a way out
Are you ready for a break out?
We'll sing about, sing about us
We can run, we can run
So we'll race towards the sun
We can sing, so we'll sing about us
Feel the rush let it show
See your face, let it go
Just say yes, and we'll sing about us
Just say yes, and we'll sing about us
The lyrics to Rufio's "Run" evoke a sense of adventure and freedom, urging the listener to join in the journey of escape. The opening lines of "meet me at the back door, I got to see you coming from below" suggest a sense of secrecy and anticipation for the journey ahead. The desire to "feel the sunlight in my hair" implies a yearning for freedom and openness, setting the scene for an escape from reality. The song encourages taking things slow but also driving just a little faster, implying that time is of the essence and a desire to live in the moment.
The repetition of "shut the windows, bolt the doors, we're gone" throughout the song emphasizes the need for escape and the closure of one chapter in order to move on to the next. The lyricist contends that life is about running towards the sun, leaving behind what no longer serves and embracing the unknown. They encourage the listener to "just say yes, and we'll sing about us", suggesting that the journey is about creating memories and savoring the moment.
Overall, "Run" is a song about escape, freedom and seizing the moment. It urges listeners to leave their troubles behind and embrace life with open arms, running towards the sun and creating memories in the process.
