Destiny
Rufus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In question is how all this came to be
You and me, kinda free, it's destiny

I look around and I like everything I see
Just us three, kinda free, it's destiny

Oh I'd like to know just what it is
That makes some things the way they are
Oh what sets the pace, what is that maze
That gives me wings to fly

Come on lets keep flying baby, sweet baby
(I said) come on let's keep flying baby, sweet baby

We found this place, an endless space
Can't let go, no baby no, it's destiny

Oh, by God's grace there's no other place for me to be
No, don't you go, it's destiny

Oh I'd like to know just what it is
That makes some things the way they are

Oh, what sets the stage, what is that face
That gives me wings to fly

one of my favorite songs, the bass line is genius.  Chaka is raw as usual but this is one of the best examples of her true artistry

Zakarias Hartley

100 percent.. Raw natural unrefined organic soul

Natural raw talent. Beautify imperfect. That is the genius of Chaka Khan 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Few can argue against that this is probably the best produced /written album of all time

Michelle Cutler

I could lay on the floor in between the speakers and listen to one of her albums 3-4 times before changing it; still my favorite artist!

orionsecret

I used to do that ALL THE TIME. At one point all I had in my studio apartment was a rug, my stereo, my records and headphones.

LinguisticAnthropology

just 3-4 times? I would listen to this 100s of times before having to go

Bruce Brown

Rufus & Chaka were really before their time. This is one of my all time favorites of them. It has that funky jazz thing going on. Along with the jazz flavor and overtones in there makes this song timeless. And Chaka’s vocals are just off the chain. This right here proves that she was a jazz singer way back then. Chaka’s voice is just incomparable and immeasurable.

Timothy Lawson

Iam 58 years old, and I remember when this album came out, always one of the band's best works good stuff.

Michael Simmons

IMO, this album was too deep for its time.
Disco was still popular in '78 and this LP just had too much going on musically, to get the airplay it deserved and chart as well as it should have.
The 'Street Player' LP was song for song, the best written and produced, Rufus feat. CK album since 'Rags to Rufus'.
