Walk This Way
Run–D.M.C. Aerosmith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Backstroke lover always hidin' 'neath the cover
'Till I talked to my daddy he say
He said, "You ain't seen nothing
'Till you're down on a muffin
Then you're sure to be a-changin' your ways"

I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
All the times I can reminisce
'Cause the best thing lovin'
With her sister and her cousin
Only started with a little kiss, like this

See-saw swingin' with the boys in the school
With your feet flyin' up in the air
Singin' "Hey diddle-diddle with the kitty in the middle
Of the swing" like I didn't care

So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin'
'Cause she knew what she was doin'
And I know love is here to stay
When she told me to

Walk this way, walk this way
Walk this way, walk this way
Walk this way, walk this way
Walk this way, walk this way
Ah, just give me a kiss

School girl sweetie with the classy kinda sassy
Little skirt's climbin' way up her knees
There was three young ladies in the school gym locker
When I noticed they was lookin' at me

I was a high school loser
Never made it with a lady
Till the boys told me something I missed
Then my next door neighbor
With a daughter had a favor
So I gave her just a little kiss, like this

See-saw swingin' with the boys in the school
With your feet flyin' up in the air
Singin' "Hey diddle-diddle with the kitty in the middle
Of the swing" like I didn't care

So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin'
'Cause she knew what she was doin'
When she told me how to walk this way
She told me to

"Walk this way, walk this way
Walk this way, walk this way
Walk this way, walk this way

Walk this way, walk this way"
Just give me a kiss

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Walk This Way by Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith describe the experiences of a young man exploring his sexuality with various women. The song starts with the singer's father warning him that he has not seen anything until he has experienced more, and then quickly shifts to him meeting a cheerleader and her sister and cousin. He then sings about swinging with the boys in school before taking a chance at the high school dance with a girl who knew what she was doing. During this moment, she tells him to "walk this way" and gives him a kiss.

The lyrics touch on themes of young love, sexual exploration, and gender dynamics. The singer is depicted as inexperienced and learning about intimacy and relationships, while the women he interacts with are portrayed more confidently, aware of what they want and how to get it. The line "Walk this way" can be interpreted sexually, as a metaphor for how to please a woman or as a way to showcase his masculinity.

Overall, the song is a catchy and lively celebration of youth and its adventures, with its lyrics full of wit and humor. The collaboration between rock band Aerosmith and hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. was a revolutionary moment in the history of popular music, bringing together two different genres and cultures and helping to break down racial barriers.

The metaphor in this video is epic. Rock and Hip-hop/Rap breaking the barrier that separates them!

@poloauz3446

I never realized that

@quasidiem99

The barrier has always been imaginary because everyone I knew in the 80s liked RUN DMC and Aerosmith, even before this song came out.

@noirfiddle7284

Much like Hip Hop was thirty years ago. Rock was invented by blacks and was  criticized as not being "real" music.  This was a legendary moment in music  history. It reignited Aerosmith's career.
