It's Like That
Run-D.M.C. vs. Jason Nevins Lyrics

Unemployment at a record high
People coming, people going, people born to die
Don't ask me, because I don't know why
But it's like that, and that's the way it is
People in the world try to make ends meetYou try to ride car, train, bus, or feet
I said you got to work hard to want to compete
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!
Money is the key to end all your woes
Your ups and your downs, your highs and your lows
Won't you tell me last time that love bought you clothes?
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Bills fly higher every day
We receive much lower pay
I'd rather stay young, go out and play
It's like that, and that's the way it is
Huh!
War's going on across the sea
Street soldiers killing the elderly
What ever happened to unity?
It's like that, and that that's the way it is
Disillusion is the word
That's used by me when I'm not heard
I just go through life with my glasses blurred
Huh!
You can see a lot in this lifespan
Like a bum eating out of a garbage can
You notice one time he was your man
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is
You should've gone to school, you could've learned a trade
But you laid in the bed where the bums have laid
Now all the time you're crying that you're underpaid
It's like that, and that's the way it is
You know it's like that, and that's the way it is
Because it's like that, and that's the way it is
You know it's like that, and that's the way it is
Because it's like

One thing I know is that life is short
So listen up homeboy, give this a thought
The next time someone's teaching why don't you get taught?
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is
If you really think about it times aren't that bad
The one that flexes with successes will make you glad
Stop playing, start praying, you won't be sad
It's like that (what?) and that's the way it is

Run-D.M.C. vs. Jason Nevins's song "It's Like That" is a commentary on society, highlighting poverty, unemployment, and the struggle for survival. The first verse speaks about the high level of unemployment and how people die without any rhyme or reason. The next verse points out that people have to work hard to make ends meet, and money is the key to a better life. However, the singer comments that money is not everything and asks if love has ever bought clothes. The following verse speaks about how the cost of living is rising, but wages are not going up, and the singer would rather enjoy life while he is young.
The song then turns to the issue of war, and how it creates a divide between people, eroding unity. Run-D.M.C. comment that disillusionment is a part of life that everyone experiences when they are not heard. The singer reflects on the fact that there is a lot to see in one's lifespan, including those who are less fortunate than oneself. This ranges from individuals who have to eat from a garbage can to individuals who could have had a successful career had they only applied themselves. The song concludes with the advice to stop playing and start praying; success will make us all happy.
Overall, "It's Like That" is an insightful commentary on social issues of the time. It is a call to action that suggests that society can be the change that it wants to see. It employs a mix of rap and rock, with high energy and an excellent beat, to convey its message. It is a testament to the timelessness of music and its power to inspire.

Remember seeing this on MTV as a 10 year old back in the nineties. Blown away! Thank you MTV!
@regallax137
I hear that! but I was more their age and use to go clubbing using the moves, my mates and I use to think we were better than them haha...that they were just actors, we use to say, at the club's, the dance was way better as we did also, ask me to do it now? nah, way out of practice,
but good times and great memories, can't beat those days from 80s throughout the 90s, then downhill gradually from the 20s.
