Walk This Way
Run D.M.C Featuring Steve Tyler And Joe Perry Of Aerosmith Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Now there's a backseat lover
That's always undercover
And I talk til my daddy say
Said you ain't seen nuthin'
Til you're down on her muffin
And there's sure to be a change in ways
Now there's a cheerleader
That's a real big pleaser
As far as I can reminisce
But the best thing love it
Was her sister and her cousin
And it started with a little kiss, like this

She starts swingin'
With the boys in tune
And her feet just fly up in the air
Singin' hey diddle diddle with a kitty in the middle
And they swingin' like it just don't care
So I took a big chance
At the high school dance
With a lady who was ready to play
It wasn't me she was foolin
'Cause she knew what was she was doin'
When she told me how to walk this way

She told me to
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
She told me to
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
Well just gimme a kiss!
Oooh, a-like this!

School girl sleazy
With a classy kind of sassy
Little skirt hangin' way up her knee
It was three young ladies
In the school gym locker
And they find they were lookin' at D
I was high school loser
Never made it with a lady
Til a boy told me somethin' I missed
That my next door neighbor
Had a daughter had a favor
And I gave the girl just a little kiss, like this

She starts swingin' with the boys in the school
With her feet flyin' up in the air
Singing hey diddle diddle with a kitty in the middle
I was swingin' like I didn't care
So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn't me she was foolin' 'cause she knew what she was doin'
When she told me how to walk this way

She told me to
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
She told me to
Walk this way!
Talk this way!
Walk this way!

Talk this way!
Like this!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Walk This Way depict a series of sexual encounters, some consensual and others potentially non-consensual. The opening lines introduce a "backseat lover" who is "always undercover," suggesting a hidden or secret relationship. The singer talks about his sexual experiences and his "daddy" warning him that he hasn't "seen nuthin'" until he's been "down on her muffin," potentially referencing oral sex. The second verse talks about a "cheerleader" who is a "real big pleaser" and her sister and cousin, with whom the singer had a sexual encounter that began with a "little kiss." The final verse talks about a "school girl sleazy" with a "sassy" attitude and a short skirt, who the singer is also interested in.

While the lyrics are overtly sexual, there are also potential problematic aspects to the content, such as potential non-consensual encounters and objectification of women. It is worth noting that the song was written and performed in 1986, a time with different cultural norms and a less developed understanding of consent and gender equality.

The metaphor in this video is epic. Rock and Hip-hop/Rap breaking the barrier that separates them!

@poloauz3446

I never realized that

@quasidiem99

The barrier has always been imaginary because everyone I knew in the 80s liked RUN DMC and Aerosmith, even before this song came out.

@noirfiddle7284

Much like Hip Hop was thirty years ago. Rock was invented by blacks and was  criticized as not being "real" music.  This was a legendary moment in music  history. It reignited Aerosmith's career.
