In 1995 they changed their name to the Runaways (also known as Runaways UK) and were signed to Ultimate Dilemma in the UK and Three Sixty Records in the US. They recorded their debut album Classic Tales which was released in 1997. This was followed by a second album entitled Progress released in 2000 and featured a Hip-Hop aesthetic in the form of collaborations with various MC's.

R.I.P Laurie McAllister, the bass player who past away August 25 2011. It's sad that she died so young :'( I feel so sorry for her family and friends. But now we know, that there's one more Runaway Angel in heaven. I bet she found Sandy there, still drumming, still keeping the beat. 'Cause I know, that The Runaways always will be there for us, no matter what happen. There's nothing like this band in the world anymore. And I'll never forget the day when this band changed my life <3

@BSDShoes It's Laurie McAllister, their final bassist who was with them from November 1978 - January 1979. If you 'google' her name, there's a pic of her with the same bass guitar that she's using in this video. Also, she plays bass with her fingers, whereas Jackie Fox used a plektrum.

Sandy always inspired me/ made me want to cry, because despite all the musical/personal conflicts within the band, difficulties with substance abuse, and hatred directed at the band, she always just kept on smiling and playing like she was having the time of her life. I just go to pieces at 0:50.

They sure broke the all girl band personas wide open, it wasn't just that they were bleeding sexuality they backed all of that up by playing their asses off and were very competent musicians. Having grown up in the 60s and 70s this was all new and explosive , These great gals earned their reputation & took the influences that came before them like Iggy , Bob Seeger's early band, UFO, even Grand Funk, and forged their own sound of pure Rock n Roll fun , They deserve their spot in rock history for sure.

Sandy played great drums on here. She told me she doubled the tracks exactly to the second. Not an easy task for a drummer...much easier for guitar players!! I was only a little kid when they were around. I can't believe how good this band was but didn't get the appreciation they deserved. I have "heard of" this band and have heard of Cherry Bomb but I'm really surprised the songs didn't get more recognition and air play. Maybe they did, I was born in '73 but don't remember ever hearing any of their songs on radio and I've been listening to rock n roll since like 1983. I remember hearing My Sharona non stop back in the 70's and remember taking a liking to Evil Woman as a real young buck but I'm just amazed how this band didn't get the credit they deserved. I've been listening to their hits like Mama Weer All Crazy Now, Queens of Noise, and Neon Queens on the Road to Ruin and frankly I can't get them out of my head for the past couple months. I've turned some of my friends onto them too. And it's not like they were just a studio band they really could pull it off live. I like their live performances better then the studio cuts. Just real talent and they rock out. I mean Motorhead is my favorite band so I know rock n roll when I hear it. Well....better late then never I guess to hear and appreciate this band.

Long time runaways fan. this has to be their best video. always come back to this one. thought i liked joan, lita, or sandy all these years, but i just fell in love with the bassist laurie mcallister. no women rocked, like these ladies did. and they were doing it on their own, before they got out of high school !!! an obvious staple, in rock & roll history.

I remember hearing them for the first time
I was an instant fan and then I found out that it was an all female band
Being a young man and learning guitar I had much respect for these girls that were kicking a**
They have never truly gotten the respect they deserved for breaking ground for all female musicians
They were then and still are today pioneering rock legends

Laurie still has that Mockingbird bass today I understand. I never really like them, but she was so damn good playing the thing it does not matter. It seemed to have the right drive for her style. I'll always be bummed that they couldn't pull it together to do a proper reunion. It would have been so cool if they could have gotten Lita, Joan, Cherie, and Sandy together and have give us one last album and tour. Especially during the 90's, it would have been awesome if we could had the Runaways pull a comeback and show those dopey riot grrl bands how it's done.
