No Man's Land
Rupert Gregson-Williams Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(Verse 1)

Red lights crawl
ccross these midnight walls
cnd paint grey plumes
That cross the moon
Like waterfalls
Icy blue
cre the eyes of youth
That stare straight out
With open mouths
Lives torn in two

(Verse 2)

In this dark place
I see your face
cnd I embrace you
cnd hold on to you
In these memories

But duty called
cnd I stood tall
But now I lie here
With the fear
That this might be all

(Chorus)

My side stung and then
My spine was rattlin'
cll my systems came unglued

I try to rise within
But my body's crumblin'
But oh, if my heart could break on through
I'd come home to you

(Bridge)

Waves crash over me
cnd I'm holding on
Should I pass over now
If all hope is gone
My love
My life's song

I know it's been hard with me gone
I know it'll be tough to be strong
But I'll be the sun beside you
I'll be a light to guide you
Until that someday you move on
Until that someday you move on

(Chorus)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Rupert Gregson-Williams's song No Man's Land are evocative and filled with deep emotions. The song seems to be about a soldier who is fighting in a war and is torn between his duty to serve his country and his longing for his loved ones, particularly his partner. In the first verse, the soldier describes his surroundings, with red lights crawling across the walls and painting grey plumes that cross the moon "like waterfalls." He sees the youth's icy blue eyes and the pain in their lives that have been torn apart. He is consumed by memories of his partner, but duty calls, and he must stand tall. The chorus talks about the soldier's struggles with his body and the need to return to his loved one. The bridge seems to be a contemplation of death and what lies beyond, but for the soldier, his love and the love of his loved ones give him hope to hold on to life.

Overall, the lyrics of the song describe the inner turmoil of a soldier who is caught between his duty and his love for his partner. The soldier struggles with physical and emotional pain, but the love of his family gives him the strength to carry on.

Amazing that this scene was almost cut by the WB execs. This moment was THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE FILM.

@JJTheSubwayGuy

Ambaryerno Exactly, Warner Execs suck, they only make good movies when Good Directors don't let the Execs control them, for example Patty Jenkins and Christopher Nolan only made their movies on their terms and they turned out great, Zack Snyder and David Ayer both let Warner Bros control everything and look how that turned out 😂

@wrenegade6283

The Soundtrack Edit Man wtf patty was the director, zack was the producer.

@novamusic9803

Emil Wren no, Patty herself said this: “The Wonder Woman Movie was Zack’s vision and direction”

@PermanentHigh

@@JJTheSubwayGuy Christopher Nolan didn't face any interference at all because at the time there was no plan for a shared universe. The studio didn't rush his movies to meet a deadline. He had at least 3 years between each movie. That's a lot of time to prepare.

Nolan even said it himself that he wouldn't have been able to do any better than Snyder if he had to make those movies today. He said that back when he was making the movies he had plenty of time to plan things out and write the films, as there was such a huge gap in time between each movie. Snyder was rushed. It's also good to remember that Nolan turned down Man of Steel and referred Snyder for the movie. Given enough time, Snyder would've delivered an incredible Superman trilogy. And that's what Snyder had signed up for. He signed up for 3 Superman movies, but the studio got greedy and decided "shared universe". So they told him to figure out a way to get Batman in tge 2nd movie, and the JL in the 3rd.

This scene is actually based off of a legend,the Angels of Mons. It is said a mysterious woman helped the British and after that she was never heard from again. They say she looked almost exactly like Joan of Arc. Personally,I find that amazing when you combine that fact with this! I loved it so much and the music is amazing!

@VAswang

Wow! Very interesting. Never heard about this. Reading up now!

@tamalice23

Woaw hold up buddy, I don't think the whole point of Joan of Arc was to help the Brits.

@whytheheckarewedoinginhere1886

I think the British must met their guardian Angel. 0.0
