Music has been in his life since he was little and he plays many musical instruments as piano and guitar, but singing is his strong spot. Russell Allen has a vocal range of 4 full octaves.
After a few years of playing in underground rock bands he joined Symphony X in 1995 and recorded The Damnation Game. He's been in the band since then and they've recorded several albums.
2005 was a great year for him, because he released his first solo album Atomic Soul in which he plays the most instruments and he also had side project with the singer Jorn Lande, named The Battle and the follow up The Revenge.
He's also been guest singer in Flight Of The Migrator and Space Metal.
Blackout
Russell Allen Lyrics

All awoken by death's alarm
Frenzied panic everyone's in shock
Search-lights show the coming of the iron flock
Blockbusters falling down like rain
Birds of steel deliver death and pain
Chorus:
Bombs be fallin' y'all you better get down
Blackout all over town
Woman and children go down in the ground
Blackout [4x]
Dictators and terror kings
Invade us with their war machines
Nowhere to run, nowhere to go
Think we're gonna lay down and die
Ya cry "hell no"
Man the cannons and open fire
Flames of war burning higher and higher
Chorus [2x]
Blackout when the sirens sound
Yeah, the blitz is coming, oh the blitz is coming
Blackout all over town
Armageddon coming, yeah, Armageddon coming
Blackout [3x]
There's gonna be a blackout!
The lyrics to Russell Allen's song Blackout paint a vivid, terrifying picture of a city under attack during a war, likely referencing the Blitz in London during World War II. The opening lines suggest a peaceful (perhaps even sleepy) city suddenly awoken by the sound of danger, specifically death's alarm. From there, chaos ensues as people panic and searchlights reveal the arrival of enemy planes dropping bombs like "blockbusters falling down like rain." The metaphor of the "birds of steel" delivering "death and pain" is a deeply unsettling image, suggesting the mechanical nature of the attackers and their ease in inflicting destruction.
The chorus drives home the horror of the situation, with the repeated phrase "Blackout" both referencing the actual darkness during an attack (when cities would turn off their lights to avoid being targeted) and the psychological state of fear and panic the events would induce. The line "Woman and children go down in the ground" is particularly harrowing, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of war and the tragic cost it extracts from innocent civilians. The verses that follow further emphasize the hopelessness of the situation, with the invaders depicted as "dictators and terror kings" who have come to "invade us with their war machines." Despite the odds stacked against them, the song's narrator still urges resistance ("Man the cannons and open fire"), but the closing line of "There's gonna be a blackout!" seems to acknowledge that the outcome is ultimately uncertain.
